The Detroit Lions are off to a hot start in 2025 after winning their last three games, leaving them alone at the top of the NFC North. There were a lot of conversations taking place outside of Detroit after the Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers, but after a loss to the Cleveland Browns and a tie with the Dallas Cowboys, most of those voices have gone silent.
Another conversation that seems to have gone away is the one surrounding the Lions’ new coordinators. The defense under Kelvin Sheppard has gotten out to a hot start and has continued its dominance against opposing teams’ running games. On the other side of the ball, offensive coordinator John Morton is also finding his way over the last few weeks, putting up video game-like numbers in the Lions’ wins over the Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears.
On Thursday, we asked Lions fans who they thought was their defensive MVP through the 1st quarter of games, and today is our companion question of the day:
Who has been the Detroit Lions’ 1st quarter offensive MVP?
My answer: I would like to stick to my brand here and pick perennial All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell, but even I am going in another direction: Lions’ All-Pro receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Through only four games, the Sun God has amassed 307 yards on 27 receptions to go along with six touchdowns. His three-touchdown performance in the Lions’ win over Chicago was as masterful as it gets, and somehow his play has reached a new level, despite being named a First Team All-Pro in each of the last two seasons.
The Lions’ offense has no shortage of weapons, but to me, it all starts with St. Brown and his connection with quarterback Jared Goff. In crunch time and in spots where the Lions need a big play, defenses know where the ball is going, and yet it still doesn’t matter.
