New York Giants star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence was held out of practice for a third straight day on Friday due to illness. Giants head coach Brian Daboll, though, expects Lawrence to be available Sunday when the Giants face the New Orleans Saints.
“I think he’s kind of getting over it right now,” Daboll said. We won’t practice him today, but he’s done a little bit inside with the trainers. We’re going to bring him out here. He should be good to go.“
That’s good news for a Giants team seeking a second straight victory. Lawrence is their best defensive player, and one of the best in the league. Without him, an already shaky run defense would suffer and the pass rush would not have a player who demands a double team on the vast majority of snaps.
Daboll said that running back Tyrone Tracy (shoulder) would practice on Friday but likeluy not play on Sunday. It is possible that Tracy could be available on Thursday when the Giants host the Philadelphia Eagles.
