The team has yet to bring in any outside help, meaning New York is putting hope in the players on their own roster to step up, starting this week in New Orleans.

Speaking of guys that could be leaned on more, the second-year tight end matched Robinson with four targets following Nabers’ departure and was the recipient of Dart’s first career touchdown, which came on a shovel pass close to the goal line. Johnson finished the game with three receptions for 17 yards and the touchdown while playing nearly 70 percent of the offensive snaps.

Through the first four games, Johnson is tied for third on the team with 15 targets. With Nabers’ team-leading 35 targets now out of the equation, it opens up more for the rest of the pass-catchers. While his season got off to a bit of a slow start, Johnson now has an opportunity to step up and become a focal point of the passing game.

Pass rush is just warming up. Defensive end Brian Burns is tied for the NFL lead in sacks (5.0) and has a sack in each of the Giants’ first four games this year. Rookie linebacker Abdul Carter had eight pressures and five QB hits last week against the Chargers. Linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux had a sack last week and has 0.5+ sacks and a tackle for a loss in five of his past six games.

Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler has been sacked nine times over the first four games, but does not linger in the pocket with the football. Thus far, he has lived on short passes and dump-offs. The Saints have the fewest completions over 20 yards (four) in the NFL this season. The Giants will test him regardless.

The next challenge could be to shadow Chris Olave around the field or try to use his speed to stick with Rashid Shaheed, whose speed could cause headaches for Cor’Dale Flott, Deonte Banks and Dru Phillips as Spencer Rattler throws deep.

“I went up against those guys every day in practice for a couple years — great receivers,” Adebo said. “Rattler, great arm talent. Can make all throws. Journey of a second-year quarterback still trying to fine-tune some things but definitely has a lot of potential.”

The Giants should have just gone with Jameis Winston as their bridge quarterback/mentor for Jaxson Dart, because Russell Wilson’s three-game showcase was pretty dreadful, outside of that 450-yard, three-touchdown performance against Dallas’ awful defense. Wilson’s accuracy has plummeted (59.5 percent). He had no touchdown passes against the Commanders or the Chiefs and had three interceptions and three fumbles in three games before getting the hook.

Getting the run game established early will help open up the offensive game plan for the Saints, but unfortunately for New Orleans, the loss of starting guard Cesar Ruiz due to injury will not make that job any easier.

Spencer Rattler came into Week 4 intending to use his legs more often, and he did just that in a surprisingly competitive game against Buffalo, running six times for 49 yards. Frankly, I like what I’ve seen from Rattler so far; he’s exceeded my expectations and is largely playing good football.

Head coach Kellen Moore said at a Wednesday press conference that Young will miss his fifth straight game with a calf injury. When Young was injured ahead of Week 1, he said he expected to be back soon but the injury has proven to be harder to shake than he hoped it would be.
