NFL quarter-season superlatives and early lessons as teams find their identities – The Athletic

Biggest enigma — Philadelphia Eagles. Jalen Hurts is 27th in passing yardage. Saquon Barkley is 20th in rushing yards. Neither A.J. Brown nor DeVonta Smith rank in the top 60 in receiving yards. The Eagles rank 30th in total offense, but seventh in scoring (27 points per game), and 22nd in total defense and 16th in points allowed (22 points per game). Yet the defending Super Bowl champs are a perfect 4-0 and have won in just about every way imaginable.

Which unbeaten NFL team is better: The Eagles, or the Bills? – SB Nation

RJ: It is pretty silly to bet against the Philadelphia Eagles right now. I get that in every single way. But on some level it feels like the Eagles are still grinding things out in ways that are more difficult than they have to be. This is a testament to them! And their greatness! My point is that I don’t necessarily think this is sustainable, although it obviously was last year and has been for the majority of the Nick Sirianni era. Right now the most unstoppable team, from a vibes standpoint, in the NFL is the Buffalo Bills and that is mostly because they have the most unstoppable player, again from a vibes standpoint, in Josh Allen. Give me Buffalo. Barely.

A.J. Brown takes accountability, calls Philly his home – BGN

By his own admission, A.J. Brown did this to himself. One of the biggest storylines coming out of the Eagles fourth consecutive win was about the tweets the WR shared after the Bucs game alluding to his frustration with the offense. Brown spoke to reporters on Wednesday after the topic of his discontent had permeated local and national media for days, and cleared the air.

Eagles Win, Commanders Fall, Cowboys Tie, And Jaxson Dart! | NFC East Mixtape Vol. 170 – BGN YouTube

The NFC East had all sorts of wild action this past week. Between the four teams there were two wins, one in a rookie quarterback’s first start, a surprising loss, and even a tie! RJ Ochoa and Brandon Lee Gowton discuss it all on the latest episode of the NFC East Mixtape.

Broncos vs Eagles Week 5: Keys to the Game – Mile High Report

Even though the the Eagles rank in the bottom half of the league in rushing yards per game defensively, Jalen Carter is a nightmare of a matchup for this offensive line. Luke Wattenberg struggles against big, strong, and nasty defensive tackles, and that’s what Carter is about. He’s great in the run game, and Philly will need to lean on him, and this offense will have to specifically game plan for him. My idea is that the Broncos lean into their Inside Trap game more than they have so far this year as Bolles and Meinerz are much more capable at dealing with a guy like Carter, and these quick-hitting run plays should be able to keep the defense on the back foot, or open up big lanes in the Play Action game. I also like the way Denver runs their Outside Zone and Toss concepts as the offensive line executes those blocks at a high level. Toss is a great way to get to the boundary, where Carter has no chance of making a play. And a special fourth key is to win the turnover battle. The Eagles have scored a large chunk of their points off of turnovers and boast a +4 turnover margin, tied for third-best in the league. They’ve been clean when it comes to maintaining possession of the ball too, as a lone fumble is the only turnover they’ve given up all year. The Broncos have a margin of -2. It’s up to Bo Nix and the offense to play a clean game, and the defense needs to find a way to make this Philly O crack.

2025 NFL quarter-season awards: MVP, top rookies, coaches – ESPN

3. Andrew Mukuba, S, Philadelphia Eagles. As the Eagles built their defense and moved on from eight of their 17 most-used defenders for cap reasons this offseason, there were obvious places where they were going to need to take a leap of faith. Guys such as Jalen Carter, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean had already established themselves as stars, but the Eagles had questions at safety, where C.J. Gardner-Johnson was traded. Sydney Brown and Marcus Epps were on the roster, but Mukuba — Philly’s second-round pick — quickly claimed a job for himself. There’s a lot to like about what we’ve seen from him, especially in a Vic Fangio defense that relies on its safeties to disguise their intentions and mask their coverage concepts pre- and even post-snap. Though he was hit-sticked by Patrick Mahomes, Mukuba’s highlights in the Eagles’ win over the Chiefs were a great example of what he can do. He flew into the backfield from deep and helped make a tackle for loss on Isiah Pacheco, came off the slot for a pressure and half-sack of Mahomes, went over the top of a pick play and still managed to tackle Hollywood Brown for no gain on a third-and-1 crosser, and caught a deflection off Travis Kelce’s hands for an interception and 41-yard return.

‘He was just so happy:’ After 255-day layoff, Nakobe Dean returned to practice – NBCSP

Where does he fit in? What will his role be? Will he be able to even get on the field considering the way Jihaad Campbell is playing? Right now, Nakobe Dean just smiles and shrugs. Who knows? All he knows is that he’s had Oct. 1 circled on his calendar since the spring, and on Oct. 1 – Wednesday afternoon – he was on the football field for the first time in 255 days. “It’s been on the calendar,” Dean said at his locker after practice Wednesday. “I knew that Wednesday of this week I was going to practice. As soon as I found out that they were going to put me on PUP, I knew that this was the day I would practice.” It was Jan. 19, during the Eagles’ wild-card win over the Packers at the Linc, that Dean suffered a patellar tendon injury in his left knee. He had surgery the next day and has been waiting since then to play football again. “I actually went to bed 30 minutes earlier (than usual) last night,” Dean said. “I wanted to make sure my body feels good.”

Spadaro: A trip around the Eagles’ locker room – PE.com

What is next for cornerback Kelee Ringo? Kelee Ringo never puts his head down. Playing the game’s most dynamic position – the saying is, you’re only as good as your next play at cornerback – Ringo has stayed the course in an eventful three seasons as an Eagle. He has been a starter. He has been a reserve. He has come in and played in a pinch. He has been solely a special teamer. “At this level, you have to be ready for anything,” Ringo said. “That’s the nature of the business. I understand that it gets better later. I told myself that I have to be ready for whatever opportunity comes to me. Having my head down and letting something that has affected me previously, that can mess up your opportunity for whatever comes next. Continue to stay level-headed. It’s never over. I’m stronger because of what I’ve been through. There isn’t any good story that doesn’t include some adversity.”

2025 NFL trade deadline: Biggest need for all 32 teams entering Week 5 – NFL.com

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES. BIGGEST NEED: Cornerback. Ninth-year veteran Adoree’ Jackson struggled before he missed Week 4 with an injury. Jakorian Bennett is on injured reserve. Kelee Ringo had a roller-coaster first start of the season, missing three tackles against the Buccaneers. Adding a veteran corner to stabilize the group and ensure Cooper DeJean sticks as a Swiss Army knife would be beneficial. Philly could also add more pass-rush help following the latest round of injuries. I have little doubt that GM Howie Roseman will make some sort of move.

The Month of Crazy Special Teams – FTN Fantasy

Blocked kicks are not random – the Eagles talked about how they tweaked their formation to get their multiple blocks against the Rams. But they are rare enough to be non-predictive, which is why they’re not included in special teams. And yes, we stand by that, even though we’ve had nine blocked field goals, three blocked extra points and four blocked punts in just four weeks. It seems like a ton, especially because we’ve had multiple game-winning blocks so far, and it is a lot. But sometimes, a lot of random events all happen at the same time! Five blocked field goals on September 21 is a ton, there’s no question. But we also had five blocked field goals on October 16, 2005; and five blocked field goals on September 17, 2006. Six more days since the 2002 realignment have seen at four blocked field goals on the same day, and 28 more days have seen three. Sometimes, weird days happen, and it doesn’t mean that the blocked kick is now a reliable, repeatable weapon.

Mike Pereira wants the tush push to stay put – PFT

The tush push continues to be the focal point of much discussion and debate. Former NFL executive V.P. of officiating Mike Pereira has chimed in. “First of all, I don’t wanna see a play banned that has that name,” Pereira said in a video posted on social media by the NFL on Fox. “I love the name tush push. And I really don’t see a logical reason why it should be. The injury data is not really there. Because you can’t stop it, so let’s get rid of it? I don’t like it. I like the play, and I hope it stays.”

Jordan Brand’s first World of Flight store in the U.S. set to open in Philly next week – Inquirer

Hurts, who signed an endorsement deal with Jordan in 2023, has been the subject of promotion throughout the city since winning the Super Bowl earlier this year. The brand added a “, HURTS” statue to LOVE Park ahead of the Super Bowl parade — along with a matching commercial — and the quarterback honored Philly slang with his “Jawn Air” custom Jordan 11 cleats in Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “I think it is amazing that Jordan Brand chose Philadelphia for its first World of Flight store in the U.S. — it is a city that has shown me so much love and deserves the best,” said Hurts. “Jordan Brand has done so much work supporting youth and organizations in the Philadelphia community over the last 10 years, and now World of Flight is going to be a special experience for everybody that comes through.”

Commanders vs Chargers Wednesday Injury Report: New injuries in Week 5 – Hogs Haven

Jayden Daniels was medically cleared and returned for a full practice, his first since suffering a knee sprain in Week 2. He has been wearing a knee brace, and said he felt good in practice today. He expects to play against the Chargers in his home state of California. John Bates was also back at practice today, but he was limited. He suffered a groin injury in Week 2 and hasnt played since. Bates said he expected to return to practice this week. That’s not the case for WR Noah Brown who also suffered a groin injury vs the Packers, but hasn’t practiced since Week 2’s shortened Thursday Night Football schedule. Quinn said that Bates, Brown, and WR Terry McLaurin (quad) were trending up, but it looks like only Bates is on track to play this week. McLaurin didn’t play last week, and could miss another game due to an injury that has been described by some in the media as a hip flexor. He reportedly won’t require surgery and won’t be placed on injured reserve. McLaurin is still considered week to week.

Cowboys Point/Counterpoint: Is it time to get excited about this team? – Blogging The Boys

Tom: I have tried to be realistic about the Cowboys this season, especially after the extremely narrow win over the Giants and the embarrassing loss to the Bears. But it is hard to not see some bright spots in the Packers game. Yes, there were some real issues, mostly in the repeated inability to keep Green Bay from hanging 40 on the scoreboard and salvaging a tie. But another way to look at things is that they were sooooo close. On the final drive of overtime, the defense stiffened at just the right moment in denying the winning touchdown. And had they batted that final pass back into the end zone, the questionable clock management by the Pack would have seen time expire before they could kick the field goal. Look, if Matt Eberflus can just figure out a way to cobble together a pass rush, the defense can manage to slow opponents down just enough. Because this year’s offense is cooking.

Giants injury news: Four Giants held out of practice – Big Blue View

Three New York Giants did not practice on Wednesday as the team began its on-field preparations for Sunday’s Week 5 game against the New Orleans Saints. Running back Tyrone Tracy (shoulder), defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence (illness), guard Greg Van Roten (veteran rest day) and safety Tyler Nubin (groin) were held out of practice. Head coach Brian Daboll mentioned the first three in his pre-practice press conference, Tracy missed last week’s game after being injured Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Head coach Brian Daboll would only say that the second-year running back is “getting closer” to returning.
