Medical tests given to Las Vegas Raiders standout left tackle Kolton Miller reportedly showed a more serious injury than the team had hoped and he is now going to headed to the injured reserve.
NFL Media reported Tuesday that Miller suffered a hairline fracture in addition to a high-ankle sprain (the worst kind of sprain). It is not known how long he will be out, but it may extend well beyond the four-game minimum for the injured reserve. The 1-3 Raiders have 13 games remaining in the regular season.
The Raiders put Miller on the injured reserve Tuesday afternoon. His availability for the rest of the decision will depend on his recovery time and perhaps whether the team can stay in playoff contention or not. The added undrafted free agent rookie Carter Runyan to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and added tackle Leroy Watson to the practice squad.
Miller’s injury occurred shortly before Daniel Carlson’s game-winning field goal attempt was blocked Sunday, so the offensive lineman did not return to the game. Miller, who turns 30 next month, was carted off the field.
Monday, Carroll said Stone Forsythe would start for Miller if he is shelved and third-round pick Charles Grant could push for playing time. he has been inactive all season. Forsythe, who played for Carroll in Seattle and was signed just before the season, has 14 career starts. Forsythe, 27, started five games for Seattle in 2024.
Miller signed a three-year, $66 million (with $42 million guaranteed) in July. He has been a standout for the tema since he was drafted in the first round in 2018. Miller has been mostly healthy in his career and has played in 113 games. He did miss four games due to a shoulder injury in 2023.
Miller is, by far, Las Vegas’ best offensive lineman and was an anchor to a unit that played its first strong game of the season in Week 4. Now, they most move on without Miller. This is the Raiders’ first major injury of the season and they now must try to break a three-game losing streak with their left tackle.
