Lions injury update: Both starting cornerbacks leave early vs. Browns

The Detroit Lions lost both of their starting cornerbacks to injury in their Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns.

First, second-year corner Terrion Arnold suffered a shoulder injury while tackling Browns running back Quinshon Judkins. Arnold had to be escorted off the field by trainers. He initially went into the blue medical tent, but eventually went into the locker room. The Lions officially declared him as questionable to return, but as of the fourth quarter, he still hadn’t returned to the game.

A few possessions later, cornerback D.J. Reed suffered a hamstring injury while covering a deep shot to Browns receiver Jerry Jeudy. Before the ball arrived, Reed grabbed the back of his leg and collapsed to the turf. The injury appeared to be much more severe, as Reed had to be helped onto the cart and was wheeled off the field. He was officially ruled as questionable to return with a hamstring injury.

That left the Lions with Amik Robertson and Khalil Dorsey as their two outside cornerbacks. Rock Ya-Sin also got some playing time in the fourth quarter.

This story is developing, and we’ll update this post when we receive updates from the team or any other reports.

UPDATE: Coach Dan Campbell offered the following updates on both cornerbacks.

“We all saw Reed’s (injury). I don’t know what that’s going to be or how long. Certainly, I cannot imagine him playing next week at a minimum until we get more tests done. I don’t think TA’s (Arnold’s) a major (injury), is a major thing. I don’t know. There again, I don’t know about him next week, but it’s certainly not as significant as what Reed had.”

Campbell did hint at the Lions considering making a roster move at cornerback before next week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

“I told (Lions GM) Brad (Holmes) the good news is we have seven days until our next game instead of six.”
