The Arizona Cardinals fell back down to earth following a 2-0 start after losing their second straight divisional game to the Seahawks Thursday night. Kyler Murray is seemingly holding back an Arizona team that was hyped as a potential challenger to the Los Angeles Rams this season. Has he officially reached bust status?
It’s fair to wonder, given Murray threw two crushing interceptions early, as his team dug a sizable hole for themselves that they nearly recovered from. Despite him rallying the Cards from a 13-point fourth quarter deficit, some analysts believe it’s time AZ cuts ties with him.
Even some of you had something to say about his play in last night’s game thread:
Part of what has held the Cardinals back during his career is how DREADFUL he is against the NFC West. Murray has gone a combined 8-24 versus the Seahawks, 49ers and Rams in his seven-year career. Plus, he’s led his team to the playoffs once in those seven years—against L.A. no less—and had one of the worst games of his career.
Perhaps Murray’s narrative will always be that he’s a solid quarterback and nothing more.
ESPN analyst Ryan Clark posed an interesting point on “First Take,” suggesting that the Cardinals are not the destination for him to win big.
Arizona has never been a significant player in the NFC, even when they’ve fielded talented rosters, so Clark could be onto something. Either way, Murray’s accomplishments thus far as a starting quarterback and former top overall pick have been underwhelming at best.
Does that qualify him for the “bust” label? That is what I’m trying to figure out, with your guy’s help, of course.
