Week 4 Thursday Night Football Statistical Review: Seahawks foil Cardinals’ comeback attempt

After building a 20-6 lead, the Seahawks allowed the Cardinals to storm back, only for kicker Jason Myers to hit a game-winning field goal.

  • Marvin Harrison Jr. bounced back in the second half: Last year’s No. 4 overall pick endured a brutal first half before rebounding with a touchdown during the Cardinals’ comeback bid.
  • The Seahawks’ poor game management kept Arizona in the game: Holding a 20-6 lead with less than 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Seattle played it safe and the Cardinals took advantage, only for Jason Myers to hit a game-winning field goal.

Week 4 Thursday Night Football Statistical Review: Seahawks foil Cardinals’ comeback attempt

The Seattle Seahawks improved to 3-1 on Thursday Night Football in Week 4, winning 23-20 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Game Summary

According to the PFF noise-canceled score metric, the game shouldn’t have come down to a game-winning field-goal attempt, as the Seahawks were the better team throughout. They moved the ball much more efficiently, but ill-advised game management before their missed field goal late in the fourth quarter, as well as a fumble after an interception, kept the Cardinals in the game.

Passing Summary

The Seahawks’ passing attack dominated the game, dialing up shot plays for Sam Darnold while remaining dangerous on check-downs and in quick game.

Receiving Summary

Marvin Harrison Jr. had a first half as bad as one can imagine, but he still ended up as the Cardinals’ No. 1 receiver in targets, air yards and receiving yards. His second half was a glimmer of hope, but it’s just as concerning that nobody else can really step up.

The Seahawks didn’t drop back at a high volume, so the raw numbers aren’t eye-popping, but Jaxon Smith-Njigba had another very efficient game overall, cementing his status as one of the league’s best wide receivers this season.

Rushing Summary

Neither rushing offense was very efficient. The Seahawks’ failure to get much going on the ground contributed to the Cardinals’ near comeback in the fourth quarter.
