The official snap counts from the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Rams are in! Let’s take a look and run through some analysis. The official snap counts from the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Rams are in! Let’s take a look and run through some analysis.
OFFENSE
- Jalen Hurts, Jordan Mailata, Cam Jurgens, and Tyler Steen have played 100% of the Eagles’ offensive snaps so far this season.
- Saquon Barkley’s highest snap count in a game last year was when he logged 64 in Week 2. He was one snap shy of tying that total in this game. This was the highest snap count percentage of any game in his Eagles career. He was the only running back to get touches.
- The Eagles actually used A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith in this game. Good idea since they’re really good and they usually play a lot!
- Dallas Goedert was not limited in his first game back from a knee injury.
- The Eagles went with more 11 personnel in this game with Jahan Dotson logging a season-high snap count percentage of 78%. He was at 46% in Week 1 and 36.7% in Week 2. Good to see the Eagles getting away from their ineffective heavy packages. Dotson didn’t actually produce much with three targets resulting in one catch for seven yards.
- Fred Johnson came in to replace Matt Pryor at right tackle and the Eagles’ offense instantly got better. Fred must be Lane’s top backup moving forward.
- Grant Calcaterra only saw 19% of the Eagles’ offensive snaps. He previously played 58.7% as the team’s second tight end in Week 1. Perhaps the team is going away from him after his struggles as a blocker. This was Calcaterra’s lowest snap count percentage in a game since Week 17 of the 2023 season.
- Darius Cooper left the game early in the third quarter due to a shoulder injury. He was ruled out.
- After being temporarily elevated from the practice squad again, Cameron Latu saw some more snaps as a blocker in addition to being a key special teams contributor.
- A.J. Dillon played five snaps but didn’t touch the ball. The Eagles shouldn’t run so many coward’s draws … but, if they do, why not avoid Barkley taking extra hits on those plays? Could be a spot to get Dillon involved.
- Interesting to see that Latu played more snaps than Kylen Granson on offense. Granson did well on special teams.
- John Metchie caught a pass for eight yards on one of his two offensive snaps.
DEFENSE
- Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Reed Blankenship, and Zack Baun have played 100% of the Eagles’ offensive snaps so far this season.
- After playing 48 snaps for 80% of the Eagles’ defensive total in Week 2, Jalen Carter was ramped up to 60 snaps for 91% of the Eagles’ total in Week 3. This after Vic Fangio said his conditioning needs to be better. The Eagles seem to be letting him play himself into shape.
- This was Andrew Mukuba’s lowest snap count percentage of the season. He was at 84% in Week 1 and 80% in Week 2. Not a drastic drop off from those marks this week but slightly less.
- Nolan Smith was once again the Eagles’ top edge rusher in terms of playing time.
- Jordan Davis saw his second-highest snap count and second-highest snap count percentage this season. He was obviously very productive.
- Adoree’ Jackson’s playing time was limited in part due to him getting banged up.
- Moro Ojomo’s snap count percentage dropped for the third straight week: 90% > 70% > 50%. This means he will only play 30% in Week 4. Not really. But the coaching staff seems to feel less confident in him.
- Za’Darius Smith did not log a stat in the box score. He played a slightly bigger role in this game after only logging 20 snaps for 33% of the defensive total in Week 2.
- This was Sydney Brown’s highest snap count percentage after he only played about 23% in each of the first two games.
- Joshua Uche also did not log a stat in the box score this week.
- Jakorian Bennett saw playing time after Jackson got banged up.
- Byron Young had a limited role as the fourth defensive tackle.
SPECIAL TEAMS
- Jeremiah Trotter Jr. logged four special teams tackles.
- The Eagles used Marcus Epps’ final temporary practice squad elevation for this season. We’ll see if they end up signing him to the roster or not.
- Tank Bigsby has yet to log an offensive snap since the Eagles traded for him. And this despite Will Shipley missing two games. Bigsby hasn’t impressed early on as a kick returner.
- Very small role for Mac McWilliams. Beats none at all.
DID NOT PLAY
INACTIVE: Will Shipley, Tanner McKee, Drew Kendall, Kenyon Green, Patrick Johnson Azeez Ojulari, and Ogbo Okoronkwo
ACTIVE: Sam Howell, Ty Robinson
- Shipley might be able to return as RB2 in Week 4.
- McKee has been designated as the emergency third quarterback for the Eagles’ last two games. He might be able to serve as QB2 in Week 4.
- Howell will be the emergency third quarterback once McKee is healthy enough to resume his role as Jalen Hurts’ top backup.
- It’s weird that the Eagles have seven edge rushers on their roster and three of them are healthy scratches. One would think they’ll be cutting at least one of them if/when they need to open up a roster spot or two.
- Robinson was a healthy scratch in Week 1 before being limited to four special teams snaps in Week 2. The 2025 fourth-round pick dressed again in Week 3 but didn’t actually play.
