The Panthers‘ run defense is going on its second year of struggling mightily. They ranked last in rush success rate allowed last season and remain in the bottom 10 in most meaningful rushing categories through two weeks of the 2025 campaign.
And now they face a Falcons running game that placed first in rush success rate last season and was a top-five unit in rush success rate last week behind Bijan Robinson and company.
Robinson should get the lion’s share of the work from in close, in a dream matchup, and is a threat to score as a receiver, too. He has terrific odds to hit paydirt in this spot.
McCaffrey finds himself in a matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, who have been a middle-of-the-pack run-defense team this season, unlikely to pose much of a threat to the 49ers’ ground game.
What makes McCaffey so valuable beyond the rushing work is his receiving chops. In the red zone, he has a 30% target share — on top of getting rushing work from within close.
In what figures to be a close back-and-forth game, look for McCaffrey to find the endzone as either a runner or receiver.
Longshot: TE Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The New York Jets‘ defense has filtered targets to tight ends early this season, allowing nearly 10.5 targets a game to the position. And with Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka hurt and possibly limited, the likelihood that Tampa Bay will throw to Otton is only higher.
Further, Mike Evans will be one-on-one with Sauce Gardner for much of the game, and Gardner leads the NFL in separation prevented through two weeks.
Otton is coming off a 2024 season in which he was smack in the middle of the Buccaneers’ red-zone share, seeing a healthy 20% of the targets. With the injuries and matchup, look for that number to be higher in this game and for Otton to be a decent bet to find the endzone.
