For many people, having their favorite team play in primetime is one of the more exciting things that can happen. With no other games on, the eyes of the football world are all watching the same thing. The lights are brighter, and everyone wants to show out. After what was a bit of a statement win over the Chicago Bears in Week 2, the Detroit Lions are back on the road in Week 3, this time heading to Maryland to take on the Baltimore Ravens on “Monday Night Football.”
Back in the day, Detroit fans lived for those rare moments when the Lions were chosen for a primetime slot. For many years, it was typical for the Lions’ only nationally televised game to be Thanksgiving. Beyond that, opportunities were few and far between. However, those days are now distant memories.
With the success that has taken place in Detroit over the last several years, Lions’ fans have had to adjust. What do we do on a Sunday when the Lions don’t start at 1:00 pm in the afternoon?
My answer: It’s simple for someone like me—eat and enjoy being able to watch some stress-free football. Personally, I have never been a big, “Red zone,” fan. I typically pick a game or two to flip back and forth between. Maybe I will have a game on my phone while I am in the backyard watching over some beef ribs on the smoker.
This weekend is calling for some nice weather in Detroit, so I am thinking I will set up my chair in the yard, throw some wings on the smoker, and have myself an enjoyable Sunday with the family. What about you? How are you going to spend your Sunday with the Lions not playing until Monday night? Let us know in the comments below.
