The New York Giants could be sellers at the NFL trade deadline, according to an early look from ESPN at deadline possibilities.
Dan Graziano of ESPN writes:
Even if quarterback Russell Wilson is playing well by midseason, there’s a possibility the Giants will decide to switch to first-round pick Jaxson Dart — either because they think he’s ready to take over or because they’re losing too much and feel they need to change something to produce a spark. When and if that happens, Wilson could be appealing to a front office looking to acquire a veteran QB for the stretch run. Jameis Winston is also in the Giants’ quarterbacks room, though he might be in their 2026 plans as a veteran backup to Dart.
New York picked up the fifth-year option on edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, so he’s signed through 2026. But given the Giants’ depth in the defensive front seven, they could certainly get calls on someone such as Thibodeaux if they’re falling out of contention. He has 1.5 sacks to begin the season.
Valentine’s View
The Giants have seven games to play before the Tuesday, Nov. 4 deadline. If they have gone to Dart by then, or have decided to at that point, trading Wilson theoretically makes sense. Winston’s two-year contract indicates the Giants are thinking of Winston being on their roster beyond this season.
The question is whether or not there would be a viable market for Wilson. If the 37-year-old is playing well, if his 450-yard game vs. the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 wasn’t just a one-off vintage performance, maybe their could be. Suitors, though, did not exactly line up for Wilson’s services during the offseason.
Would the giants trade Thibodeaux? The early guess is that, knowing GM Joe Schoen’s history, it would take a substantial offer to entice him to move on from the first player he drafted for the Giants.
