Random Ramsdom: Will Chris Shula be next coordinator to leave?

As the Los Angeles Rams defense continues to look good, it will be defensive coordinator Chris Shula who can take more and more of the credit, and the more Shula enters the spotlight (in a positive way), the more likely it will be that another NFL team comes calling to offer Shula a head coaching position.

L.A.’s defense could struggle, Shula’s role could be questioned as he’s working with some impressive talent (how would Shula do with a lesser unit?) and he’s a defensive coordinator, not an offensive one, which can give some teams pause when it comes to filling their heach coach position, so nothing is certain, but Shula is certainly off to a strong start since becoming the DC for L.A.

Either way, Shula has been great for the Rams, and he’s represented himself well, so if he does eventually get any interviews, or the opportunity to be a head coach, it should not be too surprising.

Whether it was Brandon Staley or Raheem Morris, other DC’s under McVay have gone on to head coaching opportunities, will Shula be next?

Please comment on whatever you want, we appreciate you checking out Turf Show Times and my sincerest hope is that your week is going pretty well! Thank you for all you do, and if your week is not going so well, hang in there, Friday is coming and so is football Sunday.

“Shula’s early-season performance is garnering attention as a potential head coaching candidate in 2026, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. He named Shula among a group of three “up-and-coming defensive coordinators” who are “on the NFL league offices’ radar as a prime candidate” during the hiring cycle next spring.

Shula, 39, is only in his second season as the Rams’ defensive coordinator, but he’s been on head coach Sean McVay’s staff since 2017. He began as an assistant linebackers coach and also spent time as the team’s linebackers coach, pass game coordinator, defensive backs coach and pass rush coordinator.

McVay acolytes getting head coaching looks is not a new thing. There are several ex-McVay coordinators scattered throughout the head coaching ranks, like Matt LaFleur in Green Bay, Zac Taylor in Cincinnati, Kevin O’Connell in Minnesota and Raheem Morris in Atlanta. Former Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley was once a head coach, too, but is now the defensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints.“

Rams React Strongly to Eagles’ Tush Push (si.com)

“McVay, who has continuously questioned the legality of the play, often pointing to the NFL’s language on the use of leverage, updated his opinion on Monday.

“Anytime that you see certain things, you have conversations with the league office to make sure you’re understanding, how is it officiated? How can we coach it? I did see some of those things last night and that’ll obviously be a big talking point because they’re such a damn good team and it’s such a successful play for them,” stated McVay.“

Rams’ Puka Nacua’s ‘crazy’ reaction to viral flexing photo with childhood hero Davante Adams (clutchpoints)

“I just saw on Instagram where we have a touchdown photo of us both flexing after his first touchdown [with] the Rams,” Nacua said. “And if you would’ve said that [was going to happen] when I was in high school, I’d be like, ‘Yeah, you’re crazy.’”

The Rams’ second-year star grew up a devoted Packers fan, cheering on Adams from afar before ever setting foot in the NFL. He remembers scrolling Twitter as a teenager, posting “Go Pack Go” while waiting to watch Adams carve up defenses. Now, the player he idolized is lining up next to him in Los Angeles.“

Someone wants to talk Eagles:
