“I want him to throw it deep this week,” Brisker told Patrick Finley of The Chicago Suntimes.
On a day of football discourse that featured a longtime media member sharing their disdain for what is essentially smart defense, Bears third-year safety Jaquan Brisker welcomed the idea of testing him and his fellow defensive backs.
During their media availability on Thursday, Brisker, among Bears defensive players and coaches, shared their awe for what Colts QB Anthony Richardson can do with the football. Per Patrick Finley of The Chicago Suntimes, Bears cornerbacks coach Jon Hoke said, “He’ll throw it past everybody — and they got guys that can go get it.”
When bringing up the enigma that is Anthony Richardson, of course, the otherworldy throw that traveled 65.3 air yards in week one came up. It was a throw that traveled the furthest of any non-hail mary pass attempt since NextGen Stats began tracking the statistic back in 2016. Needless to say, the Bears defense was impressed.
The Bears are certainly aware of what Anthony Richardson can and will do vertically with the football, as his 14.0 average depth of target currently leads the NFL. And that’s exactly what S Jaquan Brisker wants him to do this Sunday.
“I want him to throw it deep this week,” said Brisker. “If he can, please throw my way. Regardless of [whether] it’s short or long, I want the opportunity.”
The Bears are fresh off of playing QB CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans, and after another takeaway by way of a recovered fumble, they are now tied for fourth in the NFL with 4 takeaways (2 INTs, 2 FRs) through two weeks.
Chicago has faced two mobile QBs in Stroud and Will Levis to begin their season, but they have yet to face the challenge of a true dual-threat such as Anthony Richardson this week. Indianapolis will host the duel between Richardson and 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams this Sunday.
