In a matchup that features two former Number 1 draft picks at quarterback, the Los Angeles Rams will trek cross-country to Nashville, to take on the Tennessee Titans. The Sunday September 14 kickoff from Nissan Stadium is set for 10 a.m. PST.
The Titans are in the midst of a rebuild under second-year head coach Brian Callahan. The long-time quarterback coach and offensive coordinator has decided to build around Cam Ward, a successful and well-traveled college signal caller, staking the 2025 overall Number 1 pick on him. Ward was all of seven years-old in 2009 when the Detroit Lions made Matthew Stafford the first player selected in the draft. Both Ward and Stafford were named as QB#1 before their rookie seasons.
Week 1 saw the Rams grind out a 14-9 win over the Houston Texans, while the Titans were knocked off by the Denver Broncos 20-12. Both games were dominated by the defenses. Stafford actually played quite well in the face of a fierce pass rush. He completed over 70 percent of his passes with no interceptions and got L.A. into the end zone twice, the difference in the game. Ward was harassed throughout his game, as well. Faced with pressure on 56 percent of drop backs, he was sacked six times and undone by five dropped passes.
Expect another defensive battle. While this is a game the Rams should win, the offensive line will have to step up their execution for the offense to really be a scoring threat and it would not be surprising to see a similar game plan as Week 1. On offense, quick, one-read throws based on rhythm/timing and supported by a play-action run game. On defense, rattle the Titans young quarterback with pass rush pressure and a myriad of defensive looks/masks. Make him go downfield. Play field position on special teams and cash in on mistakes/big plays.
