Other Giant observations
How can the Giants fix their offense — fast? | ESPN.com
“We have to focus on the little things,” said Nabers, whose frustration boiled to the surface one quarter into the season. “I feel like penalties also caused a lot of our plays to get [called] back. We had a lot of explosive plays that just got flags, false starts, stuff like that… We were late getting out of the huddle a couple times, so we have to be on pace to get on the ball, put some pressure on the defense, so we can get what we want. “And I’d probably say just spread the ball around to every guy. We all got talent on the football field. In this offense, we got a lot of talent. We have to spread the ball, give a couple guys the targets, the ball, and see what they do with the ball in their hands.”
A must-win game already? Why Russell Wilson, Giants have to beat the Cowboys | The Athletic
Wilson has been around long enough to know that teams don’t stick with veteran quarterbacks leading punchless offenses long when there’s a rookie like Dart on the sideline. Especially as Daboll continues to beam whenever he speaks about the only quarterback drafted in his four years with the Giants.
Dart’s primary role during practice is operating the scout-team offense against the starting defense, but the tight-lipped Daboll volunteered that the rookie is also mixed in “once in a while” with the first-team offense. Dart could get “mixed in” for a package of plays on Sunday, which was reportedly the plan for the opener. But he’ll only take over as the starter — at least in the near future — if Wilson struggles.
Giants should play Jaxson Dart in the second half if Russell Wilson struggles vs. Cowboys | SNY.tv
The Commanders, sources confirmed to SNY, spent time watching film of the rookie quarterback in case he was put in the game in the opener. The Cowboys, sources told SNY, have done exactly the same. They’re preparing for both Wilson and Dart and expect to see the Ole Miss product if the Giants fall behind early.
That’s because Dart brings something Wilson does not. Sources told SNY that the 36-year-old Wilson, in his older age, appears apprehensive to take chances in games. You don’t worry about that with Dart. He’s the aggressive player Daboll has longed for since the Giants named him head coach. He’ll take his chances. He’ll move with his legs. He’ll give his receivers a chance to make plays.
Playing Giants’ Abdul Carter at off-ball LB might be answer to keeping No. 3 pick on field | New York Daily News
The Giants might have a solution to get Abdul Carter on the field more often while filling a new hole on their defense: Play him more often at off-ball linebacker, behind the line of scrimmage instead of on it. Carter said he’s ready for anything.
“However my coaches need me, I’ll line up wherever they need me at,” the rookie pass rusher said at his locker. “I’ve played off ball linebacker before, so it wouldn’t be something that was out of the question or something I haven’t done before. I have experience doing it…I don’t think there’s any cons to it. It’s being versatile, move around, be wherever my coaches need me to line up.”
The New York Giants player who said Dak Prescott’s dominance has “nothing to do with us” is rookie pass-rusher Abdul Carter.
Carter, a rookie who joined the team after Prescott’s long winning streak against the Giants was already established, explained that he and his current teammates were not a part of the previous seasons and therefore were not focused on Prescott’s record.
Giants taking lack of rushing attack ‘personal’ with physical point to prove in Week 2 | New York Post
“We definitely took it personal,” said Tyrone Tracy Jr., who carried 10 times for 24 yards and had 13 fewer rush yards than expected, per NextGenStats. “[Any] which way you slice it, it’s never up to our standards when you put on that performance…“I have to do what’s called, but I definitely said we needed to run the ball on the 1-yard line. I feel like everyone felt the same — whether it’s offensive line, quarterback, running back. To do the play-action pass off the 1-yard line, you have to run the ball first.”
NFL Week 2 picks, predictions, schedule, odds, fantasy tips | ESPN.com
Bold prediction: Giants RB Cam Skattebo will catch at least three passes. That’s a ton considering he played eight offensive snaps last week. But the Cowboys played zone coverage an almost preposterous 86% of the time against the Eagles, and running backs catch far more passes against zone than man.
Problem: The offensive line When Pro Football Focus ranked the New York O-line 28th in the NFL earlier this offseason, they noted “the only thing keeping the Giants’ offensive line from sinking further down this list is left tackle Andrew Thomas.” Then Thomas went out and missed the opener due to a foot injury, and incoming quarterback Russell Wilson was a mess under pressure.
Even if Thomas returns soon, this problem is likely to plague the G-Men frequently in 2025, especially because Wilson seems to be out of gas and they don’t have the resources to overcome major issues in pass protection.
The 10 best NFL player matchups to watch during Week 2 | PFF
New York Giants WR Malik Nabers vs. Dallas Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs. Despite incoherence under center, Nabers turned in an impressive rookie season, finishing with an 87.1 PFF receiving grade and 2.17 yards per route run. The LSU alum maintained that pace in Week 1 vs. the Commanders, compiling five catches for 71 yards on a solid 67.3 PFF receiving grade. On the other side, Diggs played like his 2023 form in his return from a knee injury. The former All-Pro suited up on 26 snaps against the Eagles in the season opener and didn’t permit a single target into his coverage, earning a 76.1 PFF coverage grade.
Nabers and Diggs dueled during Week 4 of last season, an affair that proved better for the rookie. Nabers hauled in two of his four targets for 16 yards and a first down, receiving a 72.5 overall PFF grade when opposed by Diggs.

CeeDee Lamb out for revenge vs. Giants player he blames for injury | New York Post
WR CeeDee Lamb Lamb said he’s got something special in store for Dru Phillips after alleging the Giants cornerback injured him last season. Lamb suffered a right shoulder injury last Thanksgiving during the Cowboys’ 27-20 win in Dallas when Phillips tackled him to the ground without the ball.
“He tackled me and hurt me, so I’ve got something for him,” Lamb said Thursday. “For sure.”

“We don’t look at [it as], ‘OK, this is a must-win. It’s got to be that,’” coach Brian Schottenheimer said. “We just go play the game. I really do believe if you start thinking the other way it kind of distracts you from the main thing. Where if you go and play well, you have the best chance of winning.”
Maybe it’s too early for “must-win,” but the Cowboys haven’t started 0-2 since 2010, and Prescott has won 13 straight starts against the Giants, the second-longest winning streak against an opponent behind Miami’s Bob Griese beating Buffalo 17 straight from 1968 to 1979.
Cowboys could deploy safety help at nickel corner with DaRon Bland injured | Blogging the Boys
Speaking on Friday morning to 105.3 The Fan, head coach Brian Schottenheimer spoke to how the Cowboys may mitigate Bland’s loss. Dallas has been committed to utilizing Bland in the slot with Trevon Diggs and Kaiir Elam playing outside and it seems the team could use some safety help to take over in that capacity.
Reddy Steward’s name has been thrown out a lot as a direct solution, but it is the type of issue where you want to have multiple plans given Steward’s lack of experience.
