The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced two practice squad moves on Wednesday morning ahead of the team beginning their on-field preparation for their Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Here’s an overview:
- CB Eli Ricks was released from the practice squad.
- DT Jacob Sykes was signed to the practice squad.
The Eagles waived Ricks from the 90-man roster on August 26. They signed him to the practice squad on August 27. They released him from the practice squad on August 29. They re-signed him to the practice squad on September 3. Now he’s gone. And it won’t be surprising if he’s back again soon. The Eagles are working around the practice squad limit by rotating some of the guys at the bottom of it.
Sykes originally signed with the Eagles right before training camp. He had a solid summer but he was never a serious contender to make the roster since the team has been loaded with defensive tackle depth. With the Eagles (curiously) waiving Gabe Hall, however, they felt the need to add another DT body. Perhaps they’re anticipating losing Hall to waivers.
