Terrion Arnold injury news: Updates on the Lions cornerback

Detroit Lions not only lost decisively to the Green Bay Packers, but they also lost the services of 2024 first-round pick Terrion Arnold for the second half of the game. Initially, Arnold—one of the team’s two starting cornerback—was ruled questionable to return at the start of the third quarter with a groin injury. However, he was quickly downgraded to out.

Lions coach Dan Campbell didn’t have much in terms of an update on Arnold’s situation.

“Don’t know how (severe). It was enough to not come back, so we’ll see,” Campbell said.

However, Arnold himself was available to the media after the game, and provided at least a little hope. The Lions cornerback said the injury initially occurred on the second defensive series of the game. He played through it for a quarter, but ultimately medical staff opted to sideline him for the final half.

“Early in the game, I was kind of coming out my break and I kind of bothered it a little bit and then it was just something I kept trying to play through,” Arnold told the Detroit Free Press. “And then like that post ball, I wasn’t able to open up. I’m making that play. Talking to (the trainers) they said it was something we feel like we caught before it could be any worse.”

Looking forward, Arnold is optimistic about where he currently stands.

“It’s one of those things where I think it’s tolerable and I can play through it,” Arnold said, according to Detroit Football Network.

However, further tests are needed. Arnold says he plans on getting an MRI on Monday, and that could reveal how severe the injury is.

UPDATE: Per Jeremy Fowler, Arnold’s injury is not considered serious.

With Arnold out for the second half, the Lions opted to move Amik Robertson from the nickel corner position to outside corner. In nickel packages, Rock Ya-Sin replaced Arnold with Robertson staying at nickel.

Campbell is expected to speak to the media on Monday afternoon. We’ll update this post if he has a substantive update.
