Dolphins vs. Colts reactions: Three stars in Week 1

The Miami Dolphins were blown entirely out of the water on Sunday, getting smacked by the Indianapolis Colts throughout their entire Week 1 showdown. Miami was looking to get off to a fast start in 2025, putting the struggles of last season behind them and getting ready for an 18-week push to the playoffs. They leave the week embarrassed, with more questions than answers, and needing the remaining 17 weeks to go right if they still want to make the postseason.

The Dolphins had no answers for anything the Colts did during the game, letting the Indianapolis offense score on every single possession while turning the ball over to the Colts three times. It was ugly – and that may not be a strong enough description.

During the preseason, we introduced our three stars article, giving us a hockey-style look at the best players from the game. Ideally, the three stars would be all Dolphins players. This week is…less than ideal, with three Colts players claiming the three spots.

There just was no one from Miami for whom an argument could be made. When the three stars are all from the Dolphins’ opponents, you know the game was a miserable one. The game was nowhere near as close as 33-8 seems.

Here are our three stars for the Dolphins vs. Colts game:

First Star

Tyler Warren, tight end, Indianapolis Colts

The rookie tight end set the tone for the game with three receptions on the opening drive. He finished with a game-high seven receptions and his 76 yards were just four-yards behind wide receiver Michael Pittman, Jr., for the game high there as well. He did not find the endzone, but just about everything the Colts asked of this year’s 14th-overall pick, he did.

Second Star

Daniel Jones, quarterback, Indianapolis Colts

Shunned by the New York Giants, Jones joined the Colts this offseason. He beat out Anthony Richardson to claim the starting position and, on Sunday, he showed some of the potential that made him the sixth overall pick in 2019. He finished the game 22-for-29 for 272 yards and a touchdown, giving him a 115.0 passer rating. Jones looked comfortable with the Colts’ offense, and he was in control throughout the game. He added 26 yards and two touchdowns rushing on seven attempts during the game. This was a strong performance for Jones.

Third Star

Laiatu Latu, defensive end, Indianapolis Colts

There are several options to take this final spot, but a defensive lineman getting his first career interception as he dropped into coverage should be able to make the list. He had one tackle to go with the pick.
