The NFC North kicks off with two divisional games. The Detroit Lions will go on the road to face the Green Bay Packers at 3:25 PM CDT on Sunday. We’ll have that as an appetizer to a juicy Sunday Night Football game and the Minnesota Vikings going on the road for Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears. Who do you have claiming the early NFC North lead on Sunday?
Detroit Lions
The defending NCF North champs will go on the road to start their divisional defense. They will miss both OC Ben Johnson and DC Aaron Glenn, who have moved on to head coaching jobs. Jared Goff leads one of the most potent offenses in the league. Center Frank Ragnow retired, but the team is mostly intact from last year on the field. Aidan Hutchinson will be anxious to get back on the field and terrorize the Packer offensive line.
Green Bay Packers
There will obviously be attention on Micah Parsons and the immediate impact he can make as a pass rusher. The Packers are one of the youngest teams in the NFL again. Jordan Love has a few rookie receivers to pair with their deep WR depth chart. Josh Jacobs is a dangerous running back who is often overlooked. Can the Packers’ defense, without Jaire Alexander, keep up with the potent Lions offense?
Game Prediction
Given the Lions’ high-powered offense led by Jared Goff and the Packers’ young, dynamic receiving corps, both teams are likely to rack up points quickly, leading to a high-scoring game. The Packers did not fare well without Alexander last year, but Micah Parsons is a difference maker. The Lions will be anxious to prove they can continue their run without their coordinators from a year ago. I am going to take the Packers in a shootout, Packers 31 – Lions 28.
