The New York Giants, in need of salary cap space to operate during the 2025 season, have restructured the contract of left tackle Andrew Thomas. Field Yates is reporting that the restructure will save the Giants $12.2 million in cap space this season.
Entering Thursday, Over The Cap showed the Giants $9.591 million over the 2025 cap of $279.2 million. The NFLPA public salary report shows the Giants with $3.449 million in cap space as of Thursday morning. That is unlikely to be enough to get them through the season, but gets them under the cap and gives them short-term ability to make practice squad moves and game day elevations.
Thomas’s contract runs through 2029. Per Dan Duggan of The Athletic, the restructure adds roughly $3 million to the cap from 2026-2029.
Given Thomas’s lengthy injury history, and the 26-year-old’s current struggles to come back from the Lisfranc surgery he underwent last fall, it could be considered surprising that the Giants would choose to push that much money into the future for him.
Still, the move gets the Giants under the cap. We will see what other moves they make to stay in cap compliance as the season progresses.
Now, we can go back to worrying about whether or not Thomas will be in the lineup Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
