INJURED RESERVE/DESIGNATED FOR RETURN
NFL teams used to have to carry players through to their 53-man roster to put them on injured reserve and have them still be eligible to return in the same season. Now teams have up to two designations where they can place a player on IR as part of getting down to 53 players and still be able to activate them after the player misses four games. The Eagles used this maneuver with both Ainias Smith and Albert Okwuegbunam Jr. in 2024.
OT Myles Hinton
RESERVE/PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO PERFORM (PUP)
Players who begin the season on reserve/PUP are ineligible to play in the first four games.
LB Nakobe Dean
NOTABLE BUBBLE PLAYERS WHO *DID* MAKE THE TEAM
WR Darius Cooper
OT Cameron Williams
OG Brett Toth
OL Trevor Keegan
S Tristin McCollum
TE Kylen Granson
RB AJ Dillon
EDGE Ogbo Okoronkwo
DT Gabe Hall
DT Byron Young
CB Kelee Ringo
QUICK ANALYSIS
- Charley Hughlett could still be the Eagles’ long snapper … they might just be playing the game where they cut him to temporarily open up a roster spot and then re-sign him once they no longer need that spot.
- Patrick Johnson could also potentially return. Bummer that he didn’t make the roster outright, though, since he had a pretty good summer once again.
- Kendall Lamm had a chance to win the swing tackle job but he didn’t look good enough to win it. And so the Eagles traded for Fred Johnson.
- Parry Nickerson seems like a good bet to return on the practice squad. Good depth CB to have around.
- For the second year in a row, the Eagles cut their final rookie from their draft class. Last year it was Dylan McMahon. This year it was Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr., who shined in the last preseason game … but was pretty invisible otherwise. The Eagles seem to think APR can make it to the practice squad.
- Roster bubble players who were waived: Kyle McCord, Ainias Smith, Kenyon Green, E.J. Jenkins, Andre’ Sam, APR.
- More Eagles roster analysis to come on BGN …
