Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
After Trading For Another Quarterback, Could Eagles Swing Another Deal? – SI
Here are two names I am hearing to keep an eye on: Travon Walker and Jaelan Phillips. Walker: The Jaguars drafted him first overall in 2022 and picked up his fifth-year option, so he is signed through 2026. He has had back-to-back, double-digit sacks seasons, putting up 10 last year and 10.5 a season ago. The Eagles would have to give up a first-round pick next year to make it happen, but it’s a pick that, if they do what is expected and make another deep playoff push, that pick would be closer to the second round anyway. The Jaguars don’t have a first-round pick next year after trading it away in the deal to land Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter in the 2025 draft. The Eagles would include Kelee Ringo and one of the three third-round picks they are expected to have next spring. A sweetener might be a fourth in 2027. His salary cap charge is $11.8 million this year and $15.1M next season. And, oh yeah, Walker played at the University of Georgia.
NFL roster cuts tracker: Eagles news, updates, trades, more – BGN
Now that the final preseason game is behind them, the Philadelphia Eagles will need to make some tough decisions on the way to finalizing their 53-man roster ahead of the league deadline on Tuesday, August 26 at 4:00 PM ET.
Eagles rookie progress reports at the end of training camp – PhillyVoice
Round 1: LB Jihaad Campbell: During the spring, Vic Fangio stated that we likely wouldn’t see Campbell practicing until August, but when we showed up on Day 1 of training camp in July, Campbell was out there almost as a full participant. His blend of size and athleticism was immediately apparent. Throughout the summer, Campbell was fun to watch, as he gets to where he’s going in a flash. But also, as the summer progressed, he made more and more plays as his read and react skills improved along with his comfort in Fangio’s scheme. There were notable improvements against the run, in coverage, and his timing on blitzes. Campbell is highly likely to start Week 1. The feeling here is that he’ll be a good player from the jump, even if far from a finished product. The sky’s the limit. On a side note, Campbell was not particularly impressive when he lined up as an edge rusher. Once he has a foundation as a very good off-ball linebacker in Fangio’s scheme, the Eagles could look to coach up his pass rush repertoire, but that’s probably on the back burner for now.
There weren’t too many tough choices here. I am not a huge fan of keeping Toth, but he was the #1 LG for a lot of the summer. There isn’t another OL that I’m scared to lose. Trevor Keegan and Cameron Williams make sense for the practice squad. I hated cutting Patrick Johnson. It wouldn’t shock me if he stayed and they went light elsewhere. He could be a good STer. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that Howie Roseman is looking for the best 53 players. He will be checking cuts by other teams. He will be making calls to see who might be available via trade. The Eagles front office will be very busy for the next 48 or so hours. Always be looking. You never know when you’ll find someone who can help you, either now or down the road.
NFL Preseason Week 3 rookie report card: Mason Graham, Jayden Higgins among seven A grades – NFL.com
TY ROBINSON: C+ … Robinson did not record any stats against the Jets, but he showed he could give strong effort as a backup to starters Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. Robinson twice got his hand on a running back, though he could not separate from his blocker to make the stop. He kept his shoulders square to beat man-up blocks and double teams at the 3-, 4- and 5-technique spots. The fourth-rounder isn’t a quick-twitch pass rusher, but he pushed his man into the quarterback a couple of times and got into the passer’s line of sight when lined up against the left tackle.
Browns trade QB Kenny Pickett to Raiders, get NFL draft pick in return – Dawgs By Nature
Veteran QB Joe Flacco earned the starting job. Rookie quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders both showed flashes of good play, along with some concerning plays indicative of third and fifth-round picks. Kenny Pickett seemed to be the leader in the clubhouse prior to injuring his hamstring early in training camp.
Breaking News: Raiders trade for Kenny Pickett – Silver And Black Pride
Pickett spent the majority of last season backing up Jalen Hurts for the Super Bowl Champs, appearing in five games but making just one start. The latter came via a Week 18 matchup against the New York Giants, where Philadelphia had nothing to play for but still won 14-3. In the offseason, the Eagles traded him to the Browns, where he hoped to win the starting job. However, the former first-rounder suffered a hamstring injury on July 26 and wasn’t able to practice for the rest of training camp, nor play in any of Cleveland’s preseason games.
Dolphins sign Rasul Douglas – The Phinsider
The Miami Dolphins are signing Rasul Douglas, adding a veteran cornerback to the roster. Douglas and the Dolphins have been in contact throughout the offseason, and now a deal is finally being signed. The agreement is a one-year contract for $3 million. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report the signing. Douglas entered the NFL in 2017 as a third-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles. During his career, he has had stints with the Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders (training camp), Houston Texans (training camp), Arizona Cardinals (practice squad), Green Bay Packers, and Buffalo Bills. During his eight seasons, he has appeared in 120 games, including 80 starts, with 441 tackles, 79 passes defensed, 19 interceptions with three touchdowns, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and two sacks.
Mark Tyler’s final Washington Commanders 53-man roster prediction – Hogs Haven
On defense our EDGE rushers all offer something a bit different. Some excel at setting the edge, while others are pass-rush specialists. Many of these players along the defensive line have inside/outside versatility. Linebacker has a great mix of veterans and younger players to develop. The secondary may be the best mix I have seen in Washington in years. Overall, I do not see many weak spots within of our two deep.
Sophomore Slumps Aren’t Real. Regression Is. – The Ringer
Since 2001, 103 quarterbacks have attempted at least 100 passes as rookies. Of those rookie passers, just 10 have netted at least 50 expected points added for their teams. And of those 10, just two have improved on their EPA totals in their second seasons. Seven were worse as sophomores. The final quarterback in that sample is to be determined. That’s Jayden Daniels, Washington’s superstar passer who is looking to avoid the dreaded “sophomore slump” in 2025.
While we are documenting who was and wasn’t doing things, it should be stated for the record that Micah Parsons was not at the portion of practice available to media.
Tyler Guyton, Jaydon Blue practice for Cowboys Monday – PFT
The Cowboys got a significant piece of their offense back on the practice field Monday. Left tackle Tyler Guyton took part in practice for the first time since breaking a bone in his knee on July 28. Guyton told reporters that he was limited to individual work and that his status for the team’s opening night game against the Eagles will be determined at a later date.
New York Giants release QB Tommy DeVito – Big Blue View
The New York Giants have reportedly released quarterback Tommy DeVito. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz is reporting that the fan-favorite former UDFA quarterback is among the moves made by the Giants as they winnow their roster down to their final 53-man roster. There had been some speculation that the Giants could try to trade DeVito, but the market apparently never materialized.
Bengals finalize new contract for Trey Hendrickson – Cincy Jungle
It’s happening. The Cincinnati Bengals are closing in on a new deal for Trey Hendrickson. According to NFL Network insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, the Bengals are finalizing a new contract for Trey Hendrickson. Per Rapoport, the Bengals are set to make Hendrickson one of the highest-paid defenders in the NFL this season. ESPN’s Adam Schefter now adds that it’s a reworked contract that bumps Hendrickson’s pay up $14 million for this season. He’ll now make $30 million this year and become a free agent next offseason.
