Rams release 11 players ahead of cutdown day

The Los Angeles Rams did not wait until the Tuesday deadline to start releasing players as the team announced the first 11 to not make the final 53-man roster. None of the first 11 to be released are surprises, including Saturday’s quarterback Dresser Winn and the leading tackler from the game, Tony Fields.

10 of these names were released to the waiver wire and Fields was the one veteran had his contract terminated and became a free agent. These are the first 11 players that we know didn’t make it from 90 to 53, but some of them could come back for the practice squad:

Tight end McAllen Castles

Safety Malik Dixon-Williams

Guard Ben Dooley

Defensive tackle Decarius Hawthorne

Guard John Leglue

Center Mike McAllister

Edge Josh Pearcy

Defensive tackle D’Jon Terry

Tackle Trey Wedig

Quarterback Dresser Winn

Linebacker Tony Fields (veteran becomes a free agent)

Winn played admirably in his only preseason appearance against the Browns. He was never going to make the final roster but maybe he did enough to keep Sean McVay interested when the Rams need another quarterback in the future. Winn could be a practice squad candidate or even be back for training camp in 2026.

The Rams still have about 26 more players to cut by Tuesday in order to get down to the 53-man roster limit. The fact that some of these players are already out of the picture does make it a little bit more clear where each position stands, but there’s a lot more work to be done.
