The Indianapolis Colts (1-2) finished off the preseason strong, beating the Cincinnati Bengals (1-2), 41-14, on the road in the finale during Saturday afternoon.
Colts rookie quarterback Riley Leonard was impressive in the first half, completing 15 of 20 passes for 189 total passing yards, a passing touchdown, and 0 interceptions. 2nd-year quarterback Jason Bean came in relief of Leonard after halftime, and he completed 11 of 17 pass attempts for 107 total passing yards, a passing touchdown, and an interception.
Undrafted rookie free agent Nate Noel led the Colts in rushing, amassing 63 total rushing yards on 7 carries (9.0 ypc avg.). Another undrafted rookie running back, Ulysses Bentley IV, led the Colts with 2 rushing touchdowns, coupled with his 32 yards rushing on 8 carries (4.0 ypc. avg.).
Former Minnesota Vikings first round pick Laquon Treadwell had the team-high in receiving yards, catching 6 receptions for 116 total receiving yards (19.3 yards per reception), including a 59-yard touchdown reception from Leonard headed into halftime. Colts undrafted rookie Coleman Owen had the Colts’ other receiving touchdown on the afternoon—along with 5 receptions and 60 total receiving yards (12.0 ypr. avg.).
Colts’ safety Daniel Scott, who’s missed his first two years with consecutive season-ending injuries, had an interception returned for a 35-yard touchdown during the first quarter off Bengals quarterback Desmond Ridder.
Meanwhile, Colts safety Trey Washington led the defense with 6 tackles (5 solo), and three Colts defenders: Isaiah Land, Marcus Haynes, and Desmond Little each had a sack on the afternoon.
Starting placekicker Spencer Shrader was 2 for 2 on field goal attempts—including a long of 44 yards, and was a perfect 2 for 2 on his extra point attempts. Colts punter Rigoberto Sanchez was in midseason form again, as his two punts averaged 55.5 yards per punt, including one which was pinned within the Bengals own 20-yard line.
