My understanding is that for tomorrow’s preseason game, the Los Angeles Chargers plan to play some starters at least for a bit, but I don’t think the Los Angeles Rams plan to play any starters, so it should be a great test for some of L.A.‘s players who do suit up.
It’s only preseason, but any time starting caliber players play, it’s pretty exciting, so I expect a decent number of eyes to tune in for Saturday’s game, even if only for a half.
My hope is you had a nice Friday and can enjoy your Saturday, there should be a Game Day Thread tomorrow, so hopefully you’ll check it out and maybe drop us a comment!
Thanks for checking out Turf Show Times and we are even closer to Week 1 than last week!
Matthew Stafford Reportedly Expected to Play Week 1 by Rams Insiders Amid Back Injury (bleacherreport)
“Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Los Angeles Rams expect him to be available for Week 1 despite the lingering back issue.
Stafford has been dealing with the back injury for several weeks, but the Rams have remained steadfast in their belief that Stafford’s injury isn’t too serious, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last week that there was “zero panic” from the team.
“My understanding is it’s a total maintenance issue,” Schefter said. “… They don’t want to put any wear and tear on his body. He knows how the game works, he knows how the offense functions, he knows how his teammates think and operate. So they are intentionally keeping him out in interest of maintenance, self-preservation and just wise caution.”
Lack of Matthew Stafford Succession Plan Could Cost Rams Super Bowl Shot (foxsports)
“Hopefully it responds a little bit better and I’ll have more information for you guys then,” McVay said regarding Stafford.
In the past two years, McVay and GM Les Snead have retooled the team with a ferocious defensive front led by Jared Verse, Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske. Now as they’re expected to contend for the Super Bowl after taking the Philadelphia Eagles to the brink of elimination in the divisional round last season, the Rams have pinned their title hopes on a 37-year-old quarterback with a balky back.
If Stafford can’t stay healthy, it’s hard to see this team making any noise in the postseason — or even reaching the playoffs. And the team’s failure to create a succession plan for Stafford could curtail its Super Bowl hopes for years to come.“
3 Potential Los Angeles Rams Trade Candidates, Featuring Davante Adams (labfnetwork)
“The Rams spent their top pick on rookie Terrance Ferguson, which puts the writing on the wall for Tyler Higbee. The franchise’s tight end for years could be sent away this season as the team appears to be interested in turning the page.
Whether Higbee survives the year seems largely determined by how Ferguson does. If he explodes, it would make more practical sense for the Rams to try to get something in return instead of letting his contract expire at the end of the season.“
