The New York Jets were selecting fourth in the 2022 NFL Draft, one spot ahead of the New York Giants. Kayvon Thibodeaux was pretty confident at the time that he wasn’t going to be selected by the Jets.
He wasn’t, of course, as the Jets selected cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Why was Thibodeaux so certain his name would not be called by the Jets? Because Thibodeaux basically tanked his pre-draft visit to the Jets.
Here is his version of the story:
“It’s funny, I’m going to share this story,” Thibodeaux said. “When you go on those 30 visits, and you do those tests, man, and I was so tired, I was jet lagged, and they had me doing the tests and I don’t know why I couldn’t do the tests. One of the tests was just messing me up and I just quit it and I was like, ‘Yeah, they might not take me off that.’
“I’m like, ‘Yeah, they might not take me,’ because I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m too tired for this. I’m done.’”
Thibodeaux, of course, became the first draft pick of Joe Schoen’s tenure as Giants general manager.
