Eagles News: Saquon Barkley says Jihaad Campbell will be “a real big problem for a lot of guys in the league”

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

‘He’s going to be a problem:’ What Saquon Barkley sees in rookie Jihaad Campbell – NBCSP

Saquon Barkley, who’s gotten plenty of work against the rookie 1st-round linebacker, raved about Campbell after practice Monday. “Super raw, like freaky athletic,” he said. “He’s going to be a problem, a real big problem for a lot of guys in the league who have to go against him and block him.” Campbell has been one of the big stories in camp as he’s come in and really taken ownership of a starting inside linebacker spot alongside 1st-team all-pro Zack Baun. He’s got tremendous size, athleticism, speed and toughness, and we’ve seen that every day out at practice. It remains to be seen whether he’ll play in the preseason opener vs. the Bengals, but at some point everybody will see what kind of player the Eagles selected with the 31st pick in April. “He’s kind of built like Micah (Parsons) a little bit,” Barkley said. “I’ve known Micah for a long time. So I feel like as he grows and learns the game a little bit more, you’re going to be able to put him in different spots. But just raw, uber athletic, can fly (and) aggressive.”

Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: The 2 most intriguing wide receivers behind the top 3 – BGN

But, to me, the two most intriguing wide receivers behind the top trio are Elijah Cooks and Darius Cooper. (I’m not including Terrace Marshall Jr. since he’s missed multiple practices due to injury.) Cooks has undeniably been the Eagles’ fourth best receiver in camp. He had a really impressive two-play sequence near the end of today’s practice. 1) He caught a pass on a slant and then immediately cut back to (metaphorically) break Eli Ricks’ ankles and accelerate to the end zone for a touchdown. 2) He then beat Mac McWilliams on a quick slant for a successful two-point conversion. Cooks is making a strong case to be on the roster. Cooper is probably more of a practice squad candidate … assuming he manages to go unclaimed through waivers. A leaping Cooper caught a fade pass over McWilliams in the end zone for a score. It’ll be interesting to see if Cooks and/or Cooper can translate their practice success to the preseason games. Keep an eye on them. Cooks is No. 86 and Cooper is No. 41.

Eagles 2025 training camp practice notes, Day 10: Rookie LB Smael Mondon… starter? – PhillyVoice

Every day, rookie LB Smael Mondon does something impressive. Today, he had blanket coverage on Saquon Barkley, who looked like the primary receiver on the play. Jalen Hurts waited a bit for Barkley to break free from Mondon’s coverage, but Mondon suffocated him and Hurts was forced to look elsewhere. If I had no idea about draft statuses or the backgrounds of of these players and I were asked who the best linebacker has been this summer, for me it would be Mondon. He’s athletic, he can cover, he’s physical against the run, and he seems willing to do the dirty work stuff. He can play. And that’s not even an indictment on guys like rookie first-round pick Jihaad Campbell or second-year player Jeremiah Trotter, who have both done their share of positive things this summer. Mondon has just been that good. Could Mondon start? I think it’s unlikely. If a rookie fifth-round linebacker in Mondon were to start over a first-round rookie at the same position in Campbell, I think that would bring a lot of unfair scrutiny on Campbell, who would be unfairly judged for not performing, when in reality he looks good too. Campbell also probably has a significantly higher ceiling than Mondon, and the more he plays the quicker he’ll reach that ceiling. But with Fangio, you never know. If he thinks Mondon is currently the better player and puts the Eagles in a better position to win games, maybe he just plays the guy who is playing better right now.

Practice Notes Roundup – Iggles Blitz

The coaches are trying different looks and lineups to see who can do what. Matt Pryor could be the #3 OL, backing up everywhere but center. Or Lamm could be the #3 OT and Pryor could focus on OG. They want to see what Hinton can do. They’d love him to play well enough to make the roster. Kinnard was pretty much a pure RT last year. If he can play OG, that improves his value. Jeff Stoutland will mix and match players as he tries to find out who can do what.

Saquon Barkley says viral Giants ‘Hard Knocks’ clip ‘saved’ him, and more from his ‘Pardon My Take’ interview – Inquirer

“It’s funny because you would think from social media that there’s this big beef with me, Joe Schoen, the Giants,” Barkley said. “In reality, I still talk to them here and there. I got to see all of them before the game last year to end the season where I didn’t end up playing. … They were super happy for me for rushing for 2,000 yards the week prior. It’s a business. The NFL is a weird business, obviously. I’m not a fan of that side of it when it comes to the money side. But, those guys were a big reason why I was able to get back.” Barkley believes the viral clip put him in more of a positive light. “I’m kind of happy though, it saved me,” Barkley said. “Because people thought that I just [left], you know what I mean. You have fans that are just blinded by it, and they just say ‘Oh, he just left.’ But, you got to see that, yes, we had a negotiation process the year before, but that year they gave me the opportunity to hit the open market which was the right thing to do by the Giants. A lot of people don’t talk about that.

This Eagles WR has Jalen Hurts ‘fired up’ in training camp – NJ.com

Jalen Hurts faced a Cover Zero blitz during a red-zone drill at Tuesday’s practice. Pressure was coming from all angles. Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was breathing down the quarterback’s neck. Hurts needed someone to step up. Who did Hurts look to? It was Jahan Dotson, the former Penn State star wide receiver who’s settling in as a legitimate option in his second year with the Eagles. Hurts whipped a pass Dotson’s way, and he beat Cooper DeJean on a crossing pattern for a touchdown. Hurts said he was “fired up,” and he wasn’t the only one. His teammates and coaches took notice. So did the fans in attendance at the NovaCare Complex.

Here are the top ten quarterbacks in Madden NFL 26: 1) Lamar Jackson — Baltimore Ravens (99 OVR). 2) Josh Allen — Buffalo Bills (99 OVR). 3) Joe Burrow — Cincinnati Bengals (97 OVR). 4) Patrick Mahomes — Kansas City Chiefs (95 OVR). 5) Matthew Stafford — Los Angeles Rams (88 OVR). 6) Jared Goff — Detroit Lions (87 OVR). 7) Jalen Hurts — Philadelphia Eagles (86 OVR).

Patriots’ Stefon Diggs provides a great litmus test for Commanders CB1 Marshon Lattimore – Hogs Haven

Lattimore’s matchups against the New England Patriots’ All-Pro premier receiver, Stefon Diggs, should be pay-per-view worthy. Assuming that both are available during Wednesday’s session, these are two top-tier, high-energy competitors who should see a few reps in one-on-ones and team drills during their practice session this Wednesday. Diggs is a quick-twitch, shifty receiver with amazing route-running ability, and it will be an excellent filler for Washington fans before the start of the season to gauge just where Lattimore is at against one of the league’s best. Whether the results are good or bad should not be an indictment of what we’ll see all season long. Still, a positive result should boost Lattimore’s confidence in that he’s feeling like himself again, as well as Whitt’s, who will know that, at the very least, Lattimore could carry his weight as he continues to evaluate other pieces in his secondary. Let’s hope that this time, Washington’s secondary goes viral for the right reasons tomorrow.

ESPN ranks the Cowboys new coaching staff as the fourth-worst in the NFL – Blogging The Boys

Obviously, we are entering uncharted waters with this new staff in Dallas. While the Yelp reviews weren’t great when Schottenheimer was hired, he has started to grow on fans. If he can transform this team into a physical group that showcases more discipline on the field, that would be a nice step forward. If he can improve the offense with more motion, cut splits, and make run and passing plays appear the same, it will give that unit a fighting chance. Ultimately, we won’t know until we see what this produces on the football field, but if this new coaching staff manages to follow through with their plan, they have the talent to make a little noise.

Giants’ Brian Daboll under pressure to produce good start – Big Blue View

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has been getting, and deflecting, questions about possible changes to his usual practice and preseason routines since training camp began a couple of weeks ago. There is a simple reason for those questions. 68-6. In case you have forgotten, and I wouldn’t blame you if you are a Giants fan and have tried, that is the combined score of the Giants’ Week 1 losses to the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings over the past two seasons. To refresh your memory, the Giants lost 40-0 to Dallas in Week 1 of the 2023 season. They lost 28-6 to the Minnesota Vikings in last season’s opener. Both of those were at MetLife Stadium. Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell even threw shade at the Giants’ lack of preparation after last season’s win by the Vikings.

Matthew Stafford dealing with aggravated disc – Turf Show Times

Despite Stafford dealing with an aggravated disc, the Rams don’t seem too concerned about Stafford’s status for Week 1. The epidural shot would explain the multiple meetings with Los Angeles based spinal surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins. While the Rams are optimistic and seem to like Jimmy Garoppolo, an aggravated disc is never something that you want to hear when it comes to a 37-year old quarterback. Stafford has dealt with multiple back injuries throughout his career and one bad hit could put the Rams without their starting quarterback. [BLG Note: The Eagles play the Rams in Week 3.]

ESPN, NFL announce media deal – PFT

ESPN and the NFL announced Tuesday night that they have a deal. ESPN made the announcement ahead of the earnings call of its parent company, The Walt Disney Company, on Wednesday. ESPN will acquire NFL Network and certain other media assets owned and controlled by the NFL, including NFL’s linear RedZone Channel and NFL Fantasy, in exchange for a 10 percent equity stake in ESPN. In addition to the sale of NFL Network, the NFL and ESPN are also entering into a second non-binding agreement, under which the NFL will license to ESPN certain NFL content and other intellectual property to be used by NFL Network and other assets.
