The New York Giants made a pair of roster moves on Monday due to injuries.
The Giants, as had been expected earlier on Monday, signed veteran running back Jonathan Ward. To make space on the 53-man roster, they waived/injured undrafted free agent running back Rushawn Baker due to a knee injury.
The Giants also signed linebacker K.J. Cloyd and placed linebacker Ty Summer on Injured Reserve, ending his season.
Ward, 27, has just 22 carries and three receptions over five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers.
In addition to the injury to Baker, the Giants were short at running back with Cam Skattebo sidelined by a hamstring injury and Eric Gray being on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
Summers, a six-year veteran, has been a reserve linebacker and special teams player throughout his career. Summers played in 16 games with two starts for the Giants last season, registering 29 tackles.
Cloyd spent part of 2024 training camp with the Giants. The 24-year-old spent part of last season on the Denver Broncos’ practice squad. He has never played in an NFL game.
The Giants need all the healthy bodies they can get as they open their preseason on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills.
