Cowboys EDGE Micah Parsons requests a trade
All-Pro edge defender Micah Parsons has formally requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported earlier in the day that the star defender could request a trade as he seeks a new contract. Parsons said last week that there hasn’t been “much movement” in negotiations between him and the team, suggesting they weren’t close to a resolution.
Parsons has been nearly unblockable since entering the league, earning a 91.6 PFF pass-rush grade or higher in each of his four seasons. Last season, his 20.2% pass-rush win rate trailed only Myles Garrett for the top mark in the NFL.
Commanders unlikely to trade WR Terry McLaurin
The Washington Commanders are unlikely to trade star wide receiver Terry McLaurin, according to The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.
McLaurin publicly requested a trade Thursday as negotiations on a new contract have stalled. “Several teams” had called the Commanders to inquire about McLaurin’s availability prior to the trade request.
The former third-round pick out of Ohio State has been a model of consistency during his time in Washington. He’s recorded at least 77 receptions and 1,002 yards in each of the past five seasons and has not missed a game since 2020. His 82.1 PFF overall grade in 2024 ranked 16th out of 133 qualifying wideouts.
Jets DI Quinnen Williams to miss time with a calf injury
New York Jets interior defender Quinnen Williams will miss the next one to two weeks with a strained left calf, according to head coach Aaron Glenn.
Williams suffered the injury in Thursday’s practice, although Glenn described the time off as more “precautionary” than anything. The former third-overall pick out of Alabama ranks fifth among interior defenders in total PFF WAR (0.87) overall the past three years.
Barring a setback, Williams will be good to go when the Jets host the Pittsburgh Steelers to open their season on September 7.
Colts QB Anthony Richardson impressing at training camp
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been “playing at a high level” throughout training camp, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
There was some concern earlier in the offseason about whether Richardson would be ready for camp, as he was dealing with a shoulder injury. He is battling Daniel Jones for the starting quarterback job, something that The Athletic’s James Boyd described as “neck and neck” thus far.
Richardson has been the ultimate boom-or-bust quarterback since the Colts made him the fourth-overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He ranked second in big-time throw percentage (6.8%) last season, but his 4.7% turnover-worthy play rate was also the second highest in the NFL.
