Linebacker Shaun Dolac is the UDFA that Rams fans expect to come out of camp with a job
One of the reasons that Rams fans expect an undrafted linebacker to stand out in training camp is that the team has made it so clear to everyone that it is not a position that the franchise values. You probably would not expect an undrafted player to take Matthew Stafford’s job at quarterback or Puka Nacua’s at receiver, but put that rookie behind Omar Speights and Nate Landman and now anything becomes possible by Week 1.
As such, in Thursday’s Reverse Q and A asking Rams fans for training camp predictions, linebacker Shaun Dolac easily dominated your answers when it comes to which undrafted free agent rookie will win the month:
As noted earlier, this is a position that Les Snead and Sean McVay annually use as a “money saver” to help support L.A.’s spending habits at other roles.
- In 2019, it was Cory Littleton
- In 2020, it was Micah Kiser, Kenny Young, and Troy Reeder
- In 2021, it was Reeder, Ernest Jones, Justin Hollins, Travin Howard, and Young
- In 2022, the Rams went outside the box to sign Bobby Wagner, which only seemed to solidify that their previous belief in being cheap was better for them
- In 2023, it was Jones and Christian Rozeboom
- In 2024, it was Rozeboom and Speights
Now entering 2025, the Rams have settled on Speights and Landman, a former undrafted free agent who spent the last three years with the Atlanta Falcons.
There is little standing in the way of Dolac and a job on the 53-man roster, potentially even getting immediate snaps on defense.

An undrafted free agent out of Buffalo, Dolac has been a tackling machine in college and won MAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2024. When a player is that productive but undrafted, it typically indicates a lack of ideal size and athleticism, which is the case for Dolac too.
But these are not traits that the L.A. Rams have typically shown an interest in at the off-ball linebacker positions and therefore Dolac should be fine. Coaches expressed a belief in the offseason that Dolac has picked up the defense quickly and could already “teach it” to others. The team did draft fifth round linebacker Chris “Pooh” Paul and have retained Reeder as additional depth once again. Overall, Dolac has as good of a chance as any undrafted free agent and that’s something that fans can see whether you’re at training camp or not.
