Will a leaner, lighter Colts’ Anthony Richardson be a better version of himself?

Indianapolis Colts 3rd-year quarterback Anthony Richardson indicated that he has trimmed down to around 240 pounds to get ‘leaner and lighter on his feet’ for this upcoming season (via WishNews8’s Angela Moryan):

Two offseasons ago, Richardson bulked up to around 250 pounds, but he had previously indicated that he was about 10 pounds lighter regarding his prior playing weight at the University of Florida.

Not only could shedding some pounds improve Richardson’s already elite quarterback speed out there, but it could also improve his flexibility—which for a young player that has struggled with availability due to injuries, could better help him stay on the field.

To begin camp, Richardson has no restrictions throwing—although he’ll be on an initial ‘pitch count,’ and is still splitting reps with top challenger Daniel Jones for the Colts’ QB1 job. He appreciated the cheers from the Horseshoe faithful on ‘Day 1’ of camp.

He’s just trying to be the QB that the Colts ‘want and need him to be.’

If it all truly clicks for Richardson out there in his 3rd career training camp, then this shouldn’t be much of a QB competition at all—as he has elite physical traits that very few others possess in this league.

Time will tell whether a slimmed down Richardson is a better version of himself, when it’s all said and done, and training camp concludes in a few weeks.
