Russell Wilson officially named Giants’ starting QB

Russell Wilson will head into camp as the New York Giants‘ starting quarterback, head coach Brian Daboll announced Wednesday.

The Giants signed Jameis Winston in free agency and traded up in the first round to select Jaxson Dart 25th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. While Dart is the clear long-term plan at the position, it appears the organization is set on having him sit behind the veterans early as he develops into an NFL-caliber starting quarterback.

Wilson took over as the Steelers’ starting quarterback in Week 7 last year and played well, finishing the year with a 79.5 PFF overall grade. His big-time throw rate (6.3%) and turnover-worthy play rate (1.6%) stood out, ranking as his best splits since his time with the Seattle Seahawks.

Dolphins CB Artie Burns suffers torn ACL

Miami Dolphins cornerback Artie Burns is believed to have suffered a torn ACL in Wednesday’s practice, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The report has since been confirmed by the Sun Sentinel’s David Furones. The injury will sideline Burns for the entire 2025 season. Burns signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in March after stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks.

The Dolphins were already incredibly thin at cornerback following the Jalen Ramsey trade, so they will surely look to the free-agent market to fill the void, with notable names such as Rasul Douglas and Asante Samuel Jr. still unsigned.

Commanders WR Terry McLaurin officially placed on the reserve/did not report list

The Washington Commanders officially placed wide receiver Terry McLaurin on the reserve/did not report list, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The news comes after McLaurin has openly expressed his frustration over his contract heading into camp. He is coming off his best statistical season as a pro, finishing the 2024 campaign with 82 receptions, 1,096 receiving yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns on his way to earning second-team All-Pro honors.

McLaurin has been a model of consistency since entering the NFL, racking up at least 1,000 receiving yards in five straight years and finishing with a 75.1 PFF overall grade or better in all six seasons of his career.

Veteran WR Keenan Allen drawing interest from multiple teams

Free-agent wide receiver Keenan Allen has drawn interest from multiple teams in recent weeks, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Allen, one of the top free agents still on the market, is likely to land with a new team in the coming days. The 33-year-old spent last season with the Chicago Bears after 11 memorable years with the Los Angeles Chargers. His production dipped from recent years (70 receptions, 744 yards and seven touchdowns), but he would still be a difference-maker for a wideout-needy team.

Allen’s 64.4 PFF overall grade last season was a career low, but he is just one year removed from a 2023 campaign in which he ranked 11th among 128 qualifying wideouts (86.3).
