The Rams could put Cooper Kupp on IR alongside Puka Nacua
Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters on Monday that the team expects receiver Cooper Kupp to miss “an extended period of time”, with a stint on IR being a possibility. The Rams already have Puka Nacua on IR and he is not expected back before November from his own injury suffered already this season.
McVay also said that Jonah Jackson, the team’s high-priced free agent guard, is also expected to have an extended absence due to injury. Safety John Johnson III is also expected to go to IR, per McVay.
Rams HC Sean McVay said Cooper Kupp is expected to miss “an extended period of time” and is a candidate for injured reserve.

If the Rams must play a month without Kupp and Nacua, it leaves Matthew Stafford’s top receivers as Demarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell, Tyler Johnson, and Jordan Whittington. The team would presumably call at least on receiver up from the practice squad, potentially Xavier Smith. With Tyler Higbee on PUP, it essentially means that L.A.’s top-three pass catchers are all injured and out for a while.
Kupp missed half of 2022 and the first four games of 2023 due to injuries. This will mean three extended absences in three years due to injury and puts the Rams offense in a serious bind moving forward.
