After drafting Jaxson Dart, a ranking from SB Nation’s Windy City Gridiron puts the Giants in the bottom third

The New York Giants quarterback situation was ranked 23rd by Bill Zimmerman of Windy City Gridiron. The ranking system was based on the team’s quarterback outlook for the next five years. Age, talent, contract, and the team’s support system were all considered.

Here is Zimmerman’s reasoning:

23. New York Giants- Jaxson Dart (22)

Dart was a climber in this year’s draft, and he seems to be embracing New York well, which not all prospects do. Dart has good arm talent, but can he put it all together and become a quality quarterback? That’s a pretty big question mark, but the unknown gives him the nod here.

Dart finished just behind Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins and just ahead of Bryce Young of the Carolina Panthers. Excellent older quarterbacks were ranked low on the list due to age precedence — Matt Stafford and the Rams finished 28th. All three of the quarterbacks drafted before the Giants’ selection in 2024 were in the top 10.

New York has an interesting player on a rookie contract who just turned 22 years old. That alone leads to a higher grade than one would expect. I agree, though; Dart is still a significant question mark. A ranking of 23rd seems fair to me, and a team like the Dolphins can get out of Tagovailoa’s contract with a post-June 1st designation in 2026.

The other rookie quarterbacks to be on the list are Cam Ward (Titans), Tyler Shough (Saints), and the Browns’ quarterback room with Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. Ward and the Titans finished 15th, and the Saints’ Shough 27th. The Browns’ situation was 31st, just ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who ranked last.

The top five quarterbacks on the list are no surprise: Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Jayden Daniels. The Giants and Dart at 23rd — I think that’s fair with a five-year window in mind. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
