New York Giants headlines for Friday

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

Other Giant observations

Giants Minicamp Notes: Jaxson Dart proves he belongs, but there’s no QB controversy | SNY.tv

The biggest quarterback takeaway from the offseason program is that Dart is not nearly as green as many believed.

But I feel pretty confident writing that Dart could start a game if he had to in early September. There’s confidence and moxie about him. He’s so comfortable with his teammates and on the field. There is plenty, plenty he needs to learn, but at no point this offseason did Dart resemble a player swimming or in over his head. It’s cliché, but true: He looked like he belonged. I’ve covered plenty of bad quarterbacks (even those highly drafted) to know what the opposite looks like. That was not the case with Dart. It’s anyone’s guess right now if he’ll be good, but on a base level: He belongs. That matters considering the scouting reports on where he was developmentally.

Insight into the Dart/Daboll relationship

Bust alert: Nine NFL players who are running out of time to prove themselves entering 2025 season | CBSSports.com

In many ways, Evan Neal has been the face of the New York Giants’ mostly porous offensive front since his arrival from Alabama, which initially brought plenty of promise. Injuries have torched his year-to-year availability, limiting him to 27 starts in his first three seasons, but he also made waves with frustrated fans in 2023 by suggesting he was above criticism. Neal apologized later, but his switch from tackle to guard ahead of 2025 indicates he’s on his last opportunity to help Big Blue turn things around in the trenches.

Why he will bust: He’s not even guaranteed a starting gig while competing with veteran Greg Van Roten at guard.

Why he won’t: He was a promising starting right tackle before; you don’t just lose that degree of NFL traits up front.

Prediction: He won’t bust

NY Giants Rookie Report: What Jaxson Dart, Class of 2025 have shown us | The Record

Marcus Mbow, offensive line. Mbow has primarily been at right tackle with the second team this spring, but offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo indicated Tuesday that the fifth-round pick from Purdue has been working at different spots throughout spring workouts. He got extended time in the second half of Tuesday’s practice at left tackle, manning the spot with all three teams, including the projected starters.

Why Giants will have extra time to assess Jaxson Dart’s rookie starting potential | NJ.com

Jaxson Dart, the Giants’ prized rookie quarterback, impressed his coaches — and especially Brian Daboll — during spring practices.

Now comes the harder part — thriving in training camp and preseason games, while showing the Giants he deserves to replace Russell Wilson. That probably won’t happen in Week 1. But if Dart performs well this summer, Wilson might enter the season on a shorter leash.

This observation seems significant

2026 NFL Draft: One area every NFL team needs to think about | PFF

New York Giants: Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux

Dexter Lawrence is coming off his third straight 89.0-plus PFF overall grade, Brian Burns is under contract for at least two more years and No. 3 overall pick Abdul Carter possesses endless potential. The Giants now have to answer the question, “What do we do with Kayvon Thibodeaux?”

Thibodeaux, the fifth-overall pick in 2022, is coming off his best season as a pass rusher, posting a 72.0 PFF pass-rush grade and a 14.2% pass-rush win rate, but does it make sense to carry him on the roster for 2026 (team option year) or move him for good value?

Jermaine Eluemunor: Giants’ O-line ‘sick and tired of not being good’ | USAToday.com

“I mean, going 3-14 is terrible,” he said. “That feeling that you get after you win the game and truly seeing everything you put in the week and all the work you’ve been putting in, paying off, there’s no feeling like it and it’s addictive and that’s what you want, week in and week out and that’s what we want to get and that’s what the team wants to become. So, I think that you saw the attendance. I don’t think anyone missed OTAs. Everyone was out there.”

The Giants may have talent where it matters most, but it won’t be enough | New York Post

There was a great deal to observe this spring with the Giants. Jaxson Dart’s potential. Abdul Carter’s addition to the pass rush. Evan Neal and the offensive line. Brian Daboll’s energy. Let’s dive in.
