SB Nation Reacts Results: J.J. for MVP?

SB Nation Reacts Results: J.J. for MVP?

So you’re tellin’ me there’s a chance?

It’s time to break out the results for this week’s SB Nation Reacts questions about our Minnesota Vikings, and we have some interesting results for this week, including a question that was part of the national survey this week that folks here might be quite interested in.

We’ll start with the first question that we asked, which was asking you to put a grade on what the purple did this offseason. Not surprisingly, everyone seems to think that things went pretty, pretty good.

Of those who responded to our survey, a full 62% felt that the Vikings’ actions this offseason deserved an “A” grade, while another 36% thought they would give it a “B.” That’s a full 98% who thought the Vikings have done an above-average job since last season ended. Throw in the 2% who gave it a “C” mark, and everyone who responded to the poll thought that the front office did at least an average job.

The second question we posed this week had to do with who you thought would be second on the club in receptions this coming season. I mean, I think we all just assume that Justin Jefferson is going to lead the team, because I’m not sure why anyone would think otherwise. We presented several options, but it wound up being a two-horse race.

Of our respondents, 51% of you feel that tight end T.J. Hockenson will make a huge impact now that he’s fully healthy and will be second on the team in receptions in 2025. Another 44% of you felt that nod would go to Jordan Addison. I might lean toward Addison, too, if I didn’t think he was going to wind up missing three games for a suspension stemming from his traffic incident that he’s going through legal proceedings for, but I’m assuming that’s going to be the case.

A couple of the Vikings’ other receivers, rookie Tai Felton and veteran Jalen Nailor, each garnered 2% of the vote, while the final 1% felt that I apparently missed an option somewhere, so they went with “someone else.”

Lastly, one of the national questions this week listed several “long-shot” candidates for Most Valuable Player, and it appears that the national perception of the Vikings’ young quarterback might be a bit stronger than we currently think.

Of the six long-shot candidates who were presented, the winner of the poll was our own J.J. McCarthy, who picked up 33% of the vote. That was enough for him to be the clear #1 choice of his fellow 2024 draftee, Bo Nix of the Denver Broncos. He also polled ahead of Aaron Rodgers, Bryce Young, Michael Penix Jr., and Geno Smith.

Yes, they’re all quarterbacks, but that’s essentially what the MVP Award is now unless someone has an insane season at another position.

Those are the results of our poll for this week, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you to all of you who participated this week, and we’ll have some more questions for you to sink your teeth into down the track.
