Here are your favorite Rams players of all-time

Here are your favorite Rams players of all-time

The under-appreciated Steven Jackson and many more

Picking favorites is rarely easy, especially if the pool of choices is as vast as the history of the Rams. On Wednesday, I opened the floor to Rams fans by asking a series of questions centered around your favorite players of all-time and the answers guide us down a memory lane of 90 years of franchise history.

Remarkably, one such player who has risen above many of those Hall of Famers, All-Pros, and Super Bowl champions is a player who goes under the radar for most fans who haven’t followed the Rams.

Steven Jackson, the Rams all-time leading rusher by a wide margin at 10,138 yards.

Jackson’s name came up often in Wednesday’s comments section. As did the Hall of Famers, the MVPs, and the Super Bowl champions.

Thank you to everyone who shared their insights and stories for the Reverse Q and A, here’s a review of what you said and why you said it.

For those of you who did not participate, do you also have these same favorite players — appreciated and under-appreciatedon your list?

PARamsFan1972: Favorite player by decade:

PAramsfan1972
70’s: Youngblood (close Cromwell)
80’s: Everett (close Eric the Great)
90’s: TERRIBLE decade.. probably Bruce
00-10: Steven Jackson
11-20: Aaron Donald (Todd Gurley sentimental— sons all-time fav)
21-24: Coooooooper Kupp
ALL-TIME favorite would be Jim Everett.

Shout outs for Steven Jackson:

Merlin&Deacon
Have to give SJ39 some serious love. He was the ONLY thing the Rams had going for them in early to mid 2000’s. Dude was a total stud that was all about the team. The epitome of “we not me”.
He would be the one player I would love to see on this current team. His skill set would fit with Sean’s mind extremely well.

Jerry Woods
Too many great Rams players to mention but probably my favorite to watch was Steven Jackson. Man, what a brute and the guy always gave 100% on some pretty terrible teams. Loved the guy.

Bralidore
All time favorites: Sj39 – the only one worth watching on the rams fir years
Kupp God
Liked Chris long too he was stuck on them bad rams teams like sj39
Was a Leonard Little fan too
Loved Faulk
Few guys im leaving off like Holt and Bru e but don’t want the list too long

Jackson endured hardships by playing on some of the worst Rams teams in franchise history, but he made the Pro Bowl in 2006, 2009, and 2010. Jackson had eight consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and led the NFL with 2,334 total yards in 2006.

Pop Quiz: Without looking it up, can you recall the last team that Jackson ever played for?

LaRams&NyMets by era:

LaRams&NyMets
Gabriel
Olsen
Snow
Josephson
Jones
Willie Ellison
Jackson
McCutheon
Youngblood
Outside linebacker forgot his name he was good… Oh Isiah Robertson?
Ferragamo
Bryant
tyler
Cromwell
“Downtown” Eddie Brown like that nickname
Waddy
Ellard
Dickerson
Slater
Some of these guys I can see them in my mind but I’ve forgotten their names. I still remember the catch in the playofff game where after catching the ball our guy runs in the alley and keeps going we win against the giants.
Jim Everettt.
Enough for now.

The Les Josephson Era

oldfartramfan
Wow, Les Josephson. You might be the only guy listing him. After I came back to my job from overseas I feasted again on Rams football. One of my co-workers ragged on me because I was a fan of Les. His best days when I was still deployed.

Les Josephson got more shoutouts than Tom Mack.

Here we go. This is not easy. A big list.

Roman Gabriel
Decon Jones
Merlin Olsen
’72
Jack Youngblood
Jack Reynolds
Jack Snow ( For all the people that think I don’t know Jac
’80
Nolan Cromwell
’90
Kevin Green

Kurt Warner
Torry Holt
Orland Pace

Historic moment here in a fight between Jack Reynolds and Marty Schottenheimer:

Question: WHO CAN YOU REMEMBER BEING YOUR FIRST FAVORITE PLAYER? WHO HERE THINKS THEY’VE BEEN A RAMS FAN FOR THE LONGEST AMOUNT OF TIME?

  • Conrad Dobler
  • Paul Hornung
  • Jon Arnett
  • Jack Youngblood
  • Deacon Jones

Who would you want to add to this list? Let us know in the comments!

Question: WAS THERE A “FAVORITE NFL PLAYER*” IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD GROWING UP? (FOR EXAMPLE: “MY DAD WAS A HUGE ROMAN GABRIEL FAN, SO I BECAME ONE TOO”)

  • Jim Hart
  • Roman Gabriel

RammingSpeed
The only sport my dad was big into was boxing. He loved Clay/Ali, which made me do the same. Pretty crazy how huge sports are to me, when my parents weren’t into them. I played most sports, but never got support from my parents. When I was 21 or 22, I was playing co-ed softball. My sister and brother in-law were on that team too. My sister came up to me totally shocked and said mom and dad are here watching. It was the only time either of us could recall them ever at one of our games.

Jim Hart is not a Ram, but was a legendary player.

Question: WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE RAMS PLAYER WHO OTHER RAMS FANS WOULD SAY “BUT HE WASN’T EVEN THAT GOOD!”? WHAT MADE THAT “NOT SO GOOD” PLAYER ONE OF YOUR FAVORITES?

  • Danny Amendola
  • Ernie Conwell
  • John Cappalletti
  • Pat Thomas
  • Jim Everett

Who is being left off this list?

Question: WHO WAS YOUR FAVORITE RAMS PLAYER DURING THE 70’s UNDER CHUCK KNOX AND RAY MALAVASI?

  • Deacon Jones
  • Jack Youngblood
  • Merlin Olsen
  • Nolan Cromwell
  • Fred Dryer

RammingSpeed
I can tell you my least favorite was Rod Perry in the 4th quarter of the Superbowl. John Stallworth burned him twice on TD bombs.

Question: WHO WAS YOUR FAVORITE RAMS PLAYER DURING THE “GREATEST SHOW ON TURF” ERA?

  • Kurt Warner
  • Marshall Faulk
  • Isaac Bruce
  • London Fletcher
  • Dre Bly

Merlin&Deacon
Marshall Faulk was the key cog to make the GSOT go. He and Kurt were the men!

Any forgotten GSOT players you want to add?

Question: WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE PLAYER ON THE RAMS RIGHT NOW?

  • Jared Verse
  • Puka Nacua
  • Kyren Williams
  • Matthew Stafford

Question: WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE RAMS PLAYER OF ALL-TIME AND WHY?

  • Kurt Warner
  • Aaron Donald
  • Merlin Olsen
  • Cooper Kupp
  • Jack Youngblood
  • Steven Jackson
  • Roman Gabriel
  • Deacon Jones
  • Jim Everett

RammingSpeed
Never bought into the favorite player…in any sport. Football is a true team game, more than any other sport. You can have the greatest player ever and not win a damn thing, if the 52 guys around him aren’t good too.

Thank you for sharing your Rams stories!
