Howie Roseman has assembled one of the most talented offense’s in NFL history, but the 2024 season is already showing that depth is equally as important. The Eagles’ boast one of, if not the, best wide receiver duos in the league — A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith — but with Brown officially ruled out for Monday night’s game, they’ll rely on those depth players sooner rather than later.
The Eagles traded for Jahan Dotson just before the start of the season, which means that the talented young WR has only had a couple weeks to try and learn an entirely new offense. Head coach Nick Sirianni said that he has confidence in whichever players will be asked to step into a new role, and noted that Dotson has been working really hard.
Sirianni also cited guys like Johnny Wilson and Britain Covey, but Wilson is similarly dealing with a hamstring injury. The team does have veteran WR Parris Campbell on their practice squad, who spent the whole offseason with the team. Campbell had a great connection with Jalen Hurts throughout OTAs, but he was injured early in camp and missed out on critical opportunities to make the 53-man roster.
In addition to Campbell, the Eagles practice squad has three other receivers: Danny Gray, Kyle Phillips, and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint. Three WRs also ended up on IR before final cuts: Jacob Harris, Joseph Ngata, and Ainias Smith — so, they don’t exactly have an extra batch of reserves waiting in the wings.
Brown’s hamstring injury started off as tightness, and in three days resulted in a missed game, so assuming he ends up missing more time, what are your thoughts on the WR depth?
