2nd-round pick from Oregon has been out with an illness
Las Vegas Raiders rookie guard Jackson Powers-Johnson is inactive Sunday for their Week 2 game at the Baltimore Ravens. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. PT.
Friday, Las Vegas coach Antonio Pierce said the second-round pick would be a game-time decision to play. He was ill last week and was inactive against the Chargers and he has been limited in practice all week. He has been dealing with health issues since the offseason sessions. The team is hopeful the Oregon product can quickly compete with free-agent addition Cody Whitehair at left guard.
Friday, 2023 first-round pick Tyree Wilson was ruled out for the game. Wilson hasn’t practiced since he departed Sunday’s 22-10 Week 1 loss at the Los Angeles Chargers with a knee injury.
Monday, NFL Media reported Wilson has a knee sprain, but it’s not expected to be long-term. The Raiders are also without starting defensive end Malcolm Koonce, who is on the injured reserve with a knee injury and he will miss, at least, three more games and ESPN has reported he could be out for the season.
The Raiders’ current healthy players at the position are superstar Maxx Crosby and the inexperienced Janarius Robinson, Charles Snowden and K’Lavon Chaisson, who was elevated from the practice squad for the game. Crosby played every snap against the Chargers. Robinson played 42 percent of the snaps on Sunday, while Snowden was on the field for 53 percent next to Crosby who seemingly never leaves the field.
Chaisson was signed to the practice squad this week. He was the No. 20 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played 57 games with 11 starts in four seasons with the Jaguars. He had five career sacks. The Jaguars declined his fifth-year option and Chaisson, 25, became a free agent. He signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers in March. They released him last week.
Rookie cornerback Decamerion Richardson is also inactive. He hasn’t practiced this week and he could miss the Ravens’ game. He missed the Chargers’ game with a hamstring injury. Here are the Raiders’ other inactive players Sunday:
