The Brotherly Shove isn’t going away in 2025.
THE TUSH PUSH LIVES!
It turns out that the NFL will NOT be banning the Philadelphia Eagles’ favorite short yardage play that was widely expected to be outlawed entering Wednesday’s league meetings in Minnesota.
The Green Bay Packers’ original proposal to ban the play in early April wasn’t successful and was instead tabled for May. The Packers came back with a revised proposal that gained more support than their first attempt did … but still fell two votes short of needing 24 owners to approve the legislation.
Had the play been banned, the Packers would’ve looked like giant crybaby losers. Ditto for their outgoing President/CEO Mark Murphy, the other teams who supported their proposal, the competition committee, the healthy and safety committee, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
But it wasn’t. And now they all still look like giant crybaby losers … who didn’t even at least get their way. Tough to be them!
Kudos to those who stood up to defend the tush push. That includes Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, who’s argued that the play is actually more safe and controlled than it is dangerous. Jason Kelce was also notably in attendance for Wednesday’s meetings to help provide more context on the play as someone who has plenty of experience running it.
In all likelihood, the Eagles would’ve been fine if the tush push had been banned. They’d still have a really effective quarterback sneak since they have Jalen Hurts and arguably the NFL’s best offensive line. Fans would’ve also been able to celebrate the fact that other teams are so jealous of the Eagles’ success that they got together to try to work against the reigning Super Bowl champions.
But now the Eagles will just get to run their nearly unstoppable Brotherly Shove again in 2025.
And they chose the perfect way to celebrate.
