The Miami Dolphins will leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of finding a suitable Jalen Ramsey replacement.

June 1st is quickly approaching, which means that the Miami Dolphins and star cornerback Jalen Ramsey could be headed for a divorce sooner rather than later.

Last week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that ‘there’s more interest in Ramsey than people realize.” He also suggested that a trade could happen before June 1st, but nothing would be finalized until after the June 1st deadline. This move would allow the Dolphins to spread the $29.2M cap hit over the next two seasons, resulting in a $5.9M cap savings this season.

With Ramsey on the way out, Anthony Weaver’s defense will have a massive hole to fill in the secondary. The team has been in talks with free agent cornerback Rasul Douglas, but no deal was reached when the two sides met earlier this offseason. Another intriguing free agent to watch is 25-year-old Asante Samuel Jr.

Samuel Jr. has been heavily suggested by fans and experts alike. And now, according to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, the two sides have officially talked. However, nothing appears imminent as Samuel Jr. seems to be taking things slow after recovering from a neck surgery in April.

The former second-round pick of the 2021 NFL Draft has started 47 out of 50 games for the Los Angeles Chargers, while playing primarily on the boundary. During his four seasons in LA, Samuel Jr. recorded 176 total tackles, three tackles for loss, 37 pass breakups, and six interceptions. According to Pro Football Focus, Samuel Jr. had one of the worst missed tackle rates in football last season (22.2%), with four missed tackles.

Like Douglas, who took a trip to Seattle after leaving Miami without a contract, Samuel Jr. has also started to garner some interest around the league, visiting with the New Orleans Saints a little over a week ago. According to ESPN, Samuel Jr. will undergo a check-up in July to see how he’s doing after neck surgery. “After which he will convene with several interested teams,” the report states.

Can the Dolphins wait until July to bring in a starting cornerback? Or will they ultimately give Rasul Douglas or another highly coveted free agent cornerback a check, hoping they can fill the void left behind by a guy many once considered as THE top cornerback in football?

Time will certainly tell.

What are your thoughts on the Miami Dolphins contacting free agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr.? Would you prefer him over Rasul Douglas? Where do you think the Dolphins will move Jalen Ramsey in the coming weeks? Let us know in the comments section below!
