Tua Tagovailoa will start again for the Miami Dolphins this season, the question now is when?
After leaving Thursday Night’s game in the third quarter with another concussion, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s future was again at the top of the news cycle. Many with no medical background chimed in on what the Dolphins starting quarterback should do, but no one other than Tua and his family knew what was next for Miami’s QB1.
That was, until now:
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Tua Tagovailoa has no plans to retire and will continue to meet with concussion specialists and doctors to determine a timeline to return.

As you probably know, Tua Tagovialoa has a history of concussion injuries, suffering at least three, dating back to the 2022 NFL season. Last year, in his fully healthy season, Tagovailoa led the league in passing yards (4,624 yards) and took Miami to the playoffs for the second consecutive season. But like coach Mike McDaniel, if you care about Tua the player — the last thing you think should be when he returns to the field.
“I just wish that people would for a second hear what I’m saying that bringing up his future is not in the best interest of him, so I’m going to plead with everybody that does genuinely care that that should be the last thing on your mind.”
Still, with a 1-1 record and a 17-game season still to play, there’s no telling what the Dolphins can accomplish this season — WHEN they get their starting quarterback back on the field. After all, the team is 20-12 when Tagovailoa plays, dating back to the 2022 NFL season.
With Tagovailoa out, Skylar Thompson will take over at quarterback for the Dolphins. Thompson was 1-1 during his career, completing 68 of 119 passes for 614 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.
