FOMO Fo Sho.
Don’t call it a comeback. Matt and Willie return to knock you out with knowledge.
Many people said the Cincinnati Bengals needed to get a safety in this draft. Even more said they needed an interior pass rusher. Some even said they needed a cornerback. Well, to quote Morpheus in The Matrix Reloaded, “Then let us hope that I was wrong.”
In this podcast, Matt and Willie discuss who the Bengals did not select in the NFL Draft. What does it mean? What is the plan? From missed players like Tate Ratledge to missed positions like safety and defensive tackle, we talk about who the Bengals didn’t draft and what that means for this season and beyond.
This draft was widely discussed as being extremely deep at defensive tackle, and yet the Bengals did not even dip their toes in these fertile waters. Why? Yes, they selected two defensive tackles a year ago and acquired another in free agency, but outside of those three players and BJ Hill, they’ve got a whole lotta nada.
Some saw this draft as deep at safety as well. I didn’t, but the Bengals had the opportunity to take Nick Emmanwori or Malachi Starks in Round 1, and they passed. They could have former Al Golden captain Xavier Watts in any of the first three rounds, and yet, they declined.
What’s that all about?
Matt and Willie discuss this as well as the claims that this was a need-based draft and that the Bengals were forced to take certain players in certain spots.
