A lot to get excited about
With the 2025 NFL Draft in the books, now begins the long, slow trudge through the rest of the offseason until training camp starts in late July. There’s plenty to be excited about with the Minnesota Vikings, including their young quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, who heads into the season as the unquestioned starter.
Head Coach Kevin O’Connell sat down with Kirk Morrison and Bruce Murray of the SiriusXM NFL Blitz program on Tuesday, and he got an opportunity to give an update on McCarthy’s progress following last year’s season-ending meniscus injury.
“He’s had a phenomenal offseason.” @Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell on QB J.J. McCarthy as he gets ready for the 2025 season.

Among other things, O’Connell said that he thinks McCarthy has had a phenomenal offseason and that he’s unsure of where the reports were coming from about McCarthy being slow or behind schedule in the rehab from his injury.
A more cynical man might think that those reports were coming from a contingent in the media who were trying to push a story line involving a quarterback whose name may or may not rhyme with Darren Codgers. Luckily for all of you, I’m nowhere near that cynical.
We can only give you a small snippet of the interview here. If you’re a SiriusXM subscriber, you can find the full interview with Coach O’Connell on the SiriusXM app by doing a search for “Sirius XM NFL Radio” and scrolling down to “The Sirius XM Blitz.” The episode you’re looking for is dated 29 April. It’s definitely worth your time to check out if you have the opportunity.
