Have the Colts done enough?

Asking whether this draft will move the needle for the Indianapolis Colts is a difficult question and maybe even a bit unfair. Draft classes are always a mixed bag and while some do stand apart from the rest, it normally takes time and seasons worth of data to come to a conclusion. Some of the players drafted won’t even make it out of training camp. Additionally, the ones that look like afterthoughts could become pillars of the franchise. While one never knows for sure, let’s take a look at a few of the top picks.

Tyler Warren was the first round pick and the first pick that sticks out in most minds. Every other article was about him being a target for the Colts. Warren alone could be a player who moves the needle for the franchise. There is major hype and his athleticism and ability will immediately improve this offense. If he can provide a consistent target and weapon for Anthony Richardson, the third year quarterback could see his game improve as well. This first pick of the Colts sure seems like a home run.

Chris Ballard got back to his old ways by drafting an edge rusher with a top selection. J.T. Tuimoloau out of Ohio State is one of a long list that Ballard has sought to plug up that position to create a consistent pass rush. If he can come in and give the Colts pressure and win his matchups, it has a domino effect for the rest of the defensive line. Same goes for Justin Walley out of Minnesota. His draft range was all over the board, and some are seeing his selection at 80 as a potential overreach. Cornerback has been another pain point for this team but gaining depth at this position can only help. How much time the third round pick sees right away will be seen.

Did the Colts get better in the draft? Yes. Did they improve enough to make a difference in 2025? Maybe. Those are only three of the picks. If two or three of them can join the rotation at their respective units and start to assume starter roles towards the end of year, we may have something. If we see them ride the pine and need additional time to develop, that won’t be surprising but might cause some to start questioning the selections.
