NFL Draft Results: Eagles pick Mac McWilliams at No. 145

The Eagles have a new cornerback!

With the 145th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles select … Mac McWilliams, cornerback, UCF!

Interesting to see that the Cleveland Browns traded directly ahead of No. 145 to take free-falling Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders at No. 144. Did they sense the Eagles wanted to add him to The QB Factory at that spot?

Anyway, back to McWilliams.

The 23-year-old mostly played on the outside in college but he does have nickel cornerback experience as well. Measuring in at just 5’ 10¼”, 191 pounds with 6th percentile arm length, he most likely projects as a slot defender in the NFL.

The Eagles obviously already have an established nickel cornerback in Cooper DeJean, assuming he doesn’t move to the outside. McWilliams figures to provide more depth at that position.

Scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:

Tenacious cornerback whose 2024 tape helped spotlight his toughness and short-area athleticism. McWilliams is best in off coverages. He plays with anticipation and burst to swarm the top of the route from his pedal and is quick to pounce on zone throws. He has average long speed and lacks length. His failure to locate deep throws is concerning. There is zero hesitation when it’s time to step downhill and support the run, though, and he’s a physical tackler who can do it on his own. McWilliams’ 2023 tape was a mess, but he was much improved in 2024 and looks capable of finding backup work as a nickelback for a zone-heavy team.
