The Eagles may have reached a bit, but the consensus is that they nailed their second round pick.
The Eagles stayed put in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft and ended up selecting Texas DB/S Andrew Mukuba at No. 64 overall.
Reactions weren’t far behind with the consensus being that Mukuba will be a great fit in Vic Fangio’s defense, and he has some versatility as far as moving to the slot or playing safety (see: C.J. Gardner-Johnson replacement?). Several analysts suggested that the Eagles may have reached a bit for someone they considered a third round value, but with the last pick in both Rounds 2 and 3, Howie Roseman and his staff probably didn’t want to wait much longer.
Mukuba’s size is another thing being questioned, but so was DeVonta Smith’s frame and we all know how that worked out. The second-round pick has the instincts and talent he’ll need to find a way on the field, and there’s a role for him right away if he can rise to the challenge.

Andrew Mukuba has the same type of alignment and positional versatility that CGJ had. Will be a starting safety by no later than next year. High character, great instincts and ball skills.

Mukuba, 22, is 5-11 and 186. He ran a 4.45 40.
Transferred from Clemson this past year and impressed in the Texas defense. Fits Vic Fangio’s defense — flies to the ball. https://t.co/h3KqR2Gqs9

Andrew Mukuba was a blue star player (one of my favorites) for me in this class. Needs to gain weight, but the instincts, physicality and coverage skills are excellent.
Love the pick for Philly. pic.twitter.com/apFyzpp63l

Former #Eagles DT Beau Allen announced the pick in Green Bay and labeled Mukuba a “defensive back,” which makes sense. He played some slot in college and may have size (5-11, 186, 30-inch arms) better suited for there than at safety.
More than likely, the Eagles will bring him… https://t.co/66lbM5sH8i

Andrew Mukuba is a FS prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 5.12 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 590 out of 1206 FS from 1987 to 2025.https://t.co/cOKIl5nwlF pic.twitter.com/O96JnhVTwO

Makuba is a 5-11, 186 pound safety who can play in the slot, so he could be Cooper DeJean’s backup and perhaps start on back end with Blankenship. A four-year starter who had 5 picks last year.

I had the #Eagles taking Andrew Mukuba in my one and only mock draft, albeit one round later.

Howie Roseman is so clearly the best general manager in the sport. Just running circles around the rest of the league

The Eagles stay at No. 64 and take Andrew Mukuba, safety out of Texas.
He joins a safety room that must backfill the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade. Sydney Brown will compete for the spot opposite Reed Blankenship, who has one year left in his contract.

Quick notes on Eagles’ second-round pick (No. 64) Andrew Mukuba, S, Texas:
• 5-11, 186 pounds
• Three years at Clemson, played 2024 at Texas
• Had 5 INTs, 11 PBUs at UT in 2024
• Ran a 4.45 at the Combine
• Ranked 72 on consensus big board
• Ranked 76 by Daniel Jeremiah— Dave Zangaro (@DZangaroNBCS) April 26, 2025
Eagles take safety Andrew Mukuba. I had him rated as a 3rd, but late 2nd is still good value. He had 5 INTs for Texas last year. Versatile DB who is a good fit for Vic Fangio’s scheme. Good pick.

Nick and I are in lockstep on Texas safety Andrew Mukuba — a playmaking safety.
We called our shot with Quinyon Mitchell, let’s see if we can do it again in 2025. I think the Eagles could trade up into the early 3rd round for him. https://t.co/lQUyOo3URG

Andrew Mukuba zero penalties over his final 26 games in college. Impressive for a player that is around the ball so much.

Steve Sarkasian in a statement about Andrew Mukuba: “What a great addition to our program Andrew was. Not just as a player, but as a leader, a teammate and a tremendous example of hard work and dedication. He just puts his head down, gives it all he’s got all of the time and is…
