New York Giants headlines for the second day of the 2025 Draft

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

2025 NFL Draft: Ranking the bust potential for rumored top-10 picks | PFF

EDGE Abdul Carter, Penn State. Bust Potential: Low. Carter’s 92.0 PFF pass-rushing grade in 2024 was the highest among FBS edge defenders with at least 300 pass-rushing snaps. His 23.7% pass-rush win rate was also the best. He got even better when facing just Power Four competition, posting 92.3 and 24.9% figures, respectively. These numbers alone are phenomenal, but when you watch his film, he displays a blend of rare speed and power to devastate offensive linemen that translates to the NFL game.

Does this Giants regime have to come away from NFL Draft with their QB of the future? | The Athletic

Winning more games this season would be the best thing for the job security of Schoen and Daboll after they combined for nine wins over the past two seasons. But coming away from this draft with a future quarterback, which co-owner John Mara declared the top priority of the offseason, could be more important to this regime’s outlook.

Not selecting one of these flawed quarterbacks might be the best outcome for the future of the franchise. If the Giants win enough games to keep Schoen and Daboll, that will mean the roster is in good shape, and they can go all in for a quarterback next year in what is projected to be a better class. And if the Giants don’t win enough games to keep Schoen and Daboll, it would make for a smoother transition if there’s a clean slate at quarterback for the next regime.

NFL Draft 2025: Teams Looking to Move Down, Few Looking to Move Up | SI.com

My understanding is Giants coach Brian Daboll has spent a lot of time talking with, and getting to know, Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart in the weeks leading up to the draft (he’s done the same with Sanders). There are no two people you’ll find who are higher on Dart than Rebels assistant coaches Charlie Weis Jr. and Joe Judge. Weis’s father, Charlie Sr., is one of Daboll’s coaching mentors. Meanwhile, Judge, who was Daboll’s predecessor in New York, was also his Patriots staffmate from 2013 to ’16.

I can’t say for sure what Daboll thinks of Dart. But I can say with a good degree of confidence that what he’s getting from Oxford on Ole Miss’s three-year starting quarterback—who was good enough to prompt Lane Kiffin to bake West Coast–based NFL concepts into the Baylor-type spread offense he’s built for the SEC—is glowing. And those things matter with a decision this big.

Brian Daboll: Russell Wilson will be our starter | Pro Football Talk

Giants head coach Brian Daboll told reporters that Russell Wilson “is our starter” after the team traded up to take Dart with the 25th overall pick. The Giants dealt the 34th and 99th picks in this year’s draft as well as a 2026 third-rounder to complete the deal.

“He can come in, sit behind a couple veteran quarterbacks and learn,” Schoen said.

“Not a chance in hell he gets out of first round,” one source said. It’s not out of the question, at all, that Dart could be the second QB taken in this draft after Cam Ward presumably goes first overall to the Titans.

“I would take him over Shedeur,” a former scout said. “More to work with than Shedeur. Better athlete. More playmaking to him. Does the same stuff with timing and scheduled throws. Just gives you a little bit more.”

Cam Ward eyed Giants in NFL draft | ‘Good news for NYG fans’ | NJ.com

The New York Giants’ chances of taking top quarterback prospect Cam Ward at No. 3 overall seems all but dead after reports this week indicated the Tennessee Titans would keep their No. 1 overall pick and take Ward, who drew trade interest. But is that what Ward wants?

“Before the Giants tried to trade up for Cam Ward, he told people in the process he wanted to play in NY for the #NYG & become their next Super Bowl QB,” reporter Ian O’Connor wrote to X on Thursday. “If nothing else, good news for NYG fans that some still see value of playing here for a historic (though struggling) franchise.”

Inside Giants’ last-minute 2025 NFL Draft thinking on Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart | New York Post

“The Giants last week fielded a call from a team wanting to trade up to No. 3 but if the Giants accepted it, they would have been forced to take a player they assigned a second-round grade in the bottom half of the first round.”
