Someone more plugged in than me guesstimates the Los Angeles Rams could add a running back in the first round
Back in February, I threw a dart at the wall and pondered the idea of the Los Angeles Rams adding running back Omarion Hampton in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft if he fell, in Daniel Jeremiah’s latest mock draft guess who he has falling to the Rams at the 26th pick? No sense in keeping you guessing, it’s Omarion Hampton.
Jeremiah says this move may seem surprising as the Rams currently have Kyren Williams, who the team could extend, and Blake Corum going into Year 2 after being a third round pick last year.
However, Jeremiah also points out what I pointed out in February (and it’s not a hot take), Williams lacks the explosiveness of top running back Saquan Barkley. Would Hampton add a new layer or level to the offense?
“On the surface, this might be puzzling, given the presence of Kyren Williams. But Williams is in the final year of his contract and had only one carry of 30-plus yards last season. In comparison, Saquon Barkley had 13 such runs, including the playoffs. Hampton provides a more explosive element to the Rams’ run game and can eventually take over as RB1.”
Look, we won’t know what will happen until it happens, but Hampton going to the Rams doesn’t seem out of the realm, however the odds do say that Hampton will more likely go to the Denver Broncos than L.A.
Buckle up and enjoy the ride as the Rams could be one of the teams to make this draft very interesting, whichever direction they go.
